Product Description

beststuff

"a cool way to make delicious ice cream without breaking a sweat. Simply fill a stainless steel bowl with ingredients and freeze. Best Consumer Ice Cream Maker of the Century."

Manufacturer's Description

Midas ice cream maker. Simply elegant, simply the best! Discover the extraordinary taste of homemade frozen drinks and desserts!

Now you can use fresh fruit and pure ingredients to produce delicious, healthy frozen treats in minutes without the additives, preservatives, hidden ingredients, or expense of store-bought products. Best of all, with the revolutionary Midas ice cream maker, you can do it with minimal fuss and an elegant flair.

The Midas is the same as the Rival MC1000 but is made entirely from hypoallergenic, low-nickel stainless steel. Its unique design means it is durable, non-electric, and silent. It's easy to clean and there are no moving parts to break, wear out, or lose. No churning is required, so there's no messy paddle to pull out and scrape. The Midas is sturdy and built to last so go on and use those metal utensils without fear of gouging a hole in the canister, worrisome gel leaks, or expensive canister replacements so typical of other ice cream makers.

Its elegant stainless steel design makes the Midas the perfect accompaniment to any dinner table from an outdoor picnic to the most formal black tie event. Unlike with electric churning ice cream makers, which can be gratingly noisy not to mention bulky, gadgety, and power-hungry conversation will not suffer and guests' nerves won't be set on edge by the Midas. (This is not to say your Midas will not be noticed!)

The Midas is based on a brilliantly simple idea that really works. What sets it apart is its unique patented rapid freezing concept. The sealed double-walled canister and lid are filled with a technologically advanced FDA food-approved solution providing up to twice the freezing power of other products. After freezing the Midas for 12 hours half the time required for most canister-style ice cream makers you can make 1.5 liters (over 6 cups, or eight normal servings) of soft-serve ice cream in only 15 to 20 minutes or let it sit a little bit longer for a harder consistency. A second batch can be made before returning the Midas to the freezer that's 3 liters from a single freezing!

This ice cream maker is incredibly simple to use and is also quite forgiving if timing is not perfect a boon for the busy host. You won't have to limit its use to ice cream, either. Use the base for chilling wine, quickly cooling soups, as an ice bucket, or for holding anything that needs to be kept chilled during the meal. The Midas is truly a multipurpose appliance and a great value. It makes for a lovely gift that's not likely to be returned.

The Midas comes complete with 20 traditional and low-fat recipes, but you'll soon be improvising your own. Take your smoothies and health drinks to a delightful new level! And if you think yummy ice cream, granitas, and sorbets are too sinful and diet-busting for you, think again. With a little creativity and planning, you can have frozen treats several times a day without guilt!

5.0 out of 5 stars Midas ice cream maker, 17 Jun 2008
By G. W. B. Bancroft (Essex) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this one as well as two other ice cream makers because it seemed so brilliantly simple - and it is. It is rather like going back in time to the old, traditional way of making ice cream. It is solidly built with no electrical or mechanical parts. Made of stainless steel, so long as it is not damaged by dropping or abuse it will last forever! Nothing to wear out. As far as taking up space, it is about the same size as a small casserole; not very big but it does make 1.5 litres of ice cream at a time; comparable with most more expensive machines and can make two batches before re-freezing. It does freeze rapidly and needs stirring as the mix freezes to the walls, then continue freezing until it is the hardness you want. It is capable of making your ice cream really solid if you want! It does not need to be hovered over but you need to watch the timing, although it doesn't matter if you overdo it by 5 minutes. You do need to mix part way through freezing but it is great fun in a nostalgic sort of way and there are no running costs nor further outlay for worn out parts. If you buy one I guarantee you won't be disappointed and if it stirs an interest in a new hobby and you decide to go for a more upmarket machine as I have, then it is a great back-up, wine chiller, etc. or you could pass it on to someone and give them a hobby. Personally, I will never part with my one!

from Midas. I am totally happy with this ice cream maker and wish the guys from Midas good luck in their business. It looks solid, it makes ice cream perfectly easy and brings other ice cream maker's brands to shame.
Get it while it still out there.

5.0 out of 5 stars Handy in a heatwave, 5 Jul 2009
By B. Lawrence - See all my reviews

An often used expression perhaps (usually describing Wood Stain) but it does exactly what it says on the tin. Frankly speaking I wasn't sure when I purchased it whether I would end up using it as a paint kettle but it actually works. Making your own frozen treats is quick and easy. Free styling the ingredients does allow your creative side to show through too. Downside is that it would be rather easy to end up the size of a house (through over indulgence - not the fault of the machine - rather the operator). Because it works, it gets the five star treatment. It must be said however that the weight of the machine once loaded becomes a challenge when its time to give it a stir (so 4.5 is probably nearer the mark). Over time, I would imagine that it becomes easier as your develop your churning and lid management skills. At the end of the day burning a few calories prior to topping up with a few more is probably not a bad thing.
