4.0 out of 5 stars Great with mates. 13 Dec 2009
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
I'd owned a PS3 for a year before I picked up my 360. I was temped mainly by the prospect of the system's online component and the fact that the majority of my friends are Xboxers rather than PS3ers. It's a great console. The Operating system is a symple interface and there are always demos, videos and other media available to download. You can purchase or rent films and download them to your hard drive. But the best thing about the 360 is the online experience. You have to pay for it which is a bit of a drag, but you get voice chat, cross game invites and lag free gaming. It is simplicity itself. You can be up and running with you mates in Gears of War and have a dedicated headset channel all to yourself, which ensures that the overall experience is easy and fun.

The games available for the console are very strong. Aside from the multiformat titles Microsoft is an excelent publisher and series such as Gears of War, Forza and Halo have strong hardcore appeal. There are some casual titles for the Wii-Brigade but you won't find any cooking simulators here. This is a console aimed at the core fanbase. Having said that, titles such as Lips and You're in the Movies are OK if you fancy a little drunken singalong.

The drawbacks are on the hardware side. The system runs very hot and loud and has a tendancy to break down. You get a three year warranty with it but that doesn't excuse anything. Newer models are more reliable so make sure you get the most up-to-date unit you can find. It is also very loud when playing a game. You tend not to notice as most games are quite loud but when you use it as a DVD player the noise can be distracting. Also if you want to upgrade your hard drive or any other hardware you have to buy direct from microsoft. Hard drives are overpriced and you also need to buy a wireless adapter to play wirelessly.

Overall though a great console and well worth the asking price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great console now that it has matured. 17 Feb 2010
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Hi peeps, this is more than a comment than a review.

I ordered the Arcade version from this page Monday evening, came 12pm yesterday using express delivery, the console itself was well packaged and the box was in pristine condition, anyway - on to the bit I really wanted to post about - The 360 I received had the Jasper Motherboard with 512MB of internal memory instead of the 256mb stated so that was a nice surprise (I'm guessing the description is a little out of date), people shopping for Xbox 360's should aim to get a Jasper version of the console as it uses alot less power, runs alot cooler (Jasper's are said to eliminate the RROD once and for all) and is a little less noisy than the the Falcon (2nd gen 360 hardware) and the Xenon (1st gen 360 hardware)

Of course you can't really tell what you are going to get when shopping online but considering Jasper's have been around for quite awhile now and Amazon's page mentions the consoles they stock are late 2009 models (Arcade editions anyway), you have an extremely high chance of getting one.

5.0 out of 5 stars There is no spoon 16 Feb 2010
Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
Well I've owned a 360 pretty much since it was launched. In that time MS have replaced it twice (free of charge). Now, on my third Red Ring Of Death, the console is out of warranty so it's cheaper to buy an Arcade and simply transfer my hard drive.

The console says copyright 2009 so it's one of the latest but I can't tell if it has the Jasper chip set. Having said that I simply can't believe how much quieter it is than my old one. It also has the HDMI socket which gives a slightly better picture on my TV than component.

I own a PS3, 360 and Wii: The Wii only ever gets played at parties; The PS3 gets used for watching DVDs and Blu-ray disks and for playing PS3 exclusive games but I much prefer the user interface of the xbox and the controller fits my hands better. I would recommend the xbox to anyone from parents buying for young children to 'hardcore' gamers who don't need my recommendation anyway.

If you're wondering about getting an xbox without a hard drive, it's really not worth it because it's far more expensive to buy a hard drive later and you will almost certainly want a hard drive at some point. But if you want to upgrade from an old machine (keeping the old hard drive) then this is a bargain.

    Thoroughly recommended and a bargain.

5.0 out of 5 stars Looking for the memory card? 19 Jan 2010
    By flyinghyphen TOP 500 REVIEWER
The Xbox 360 Arcade Console has an internal 256 MB memory chip.

This is not a 'memory card' in the way that some customers may understand it. It is not missing.

2.0 out of 5 stars More expensive in the long run 27 May 2010
Fun: 3.0 out of 5 stars
I've had this console for about 3 years now and im trading it in to get a ps3. I wouldn't consider myself a "fanboy" of any console im just going to give my honest opinion.

This console appears cheap but it is not. If you want to see it at its full potential you have to pay alot of money for very expensive add ons. For example a new hard drive (120gb) at game is 60 quid, a network adapter is 50 quid, the wireless controller and charge and play kit is 30 quid (preowned)and if you want to ease the pressure on the lense reading the discs by getting the add on dvd player thats another 50 quid, 1 year on xbox live is another 40 quid. The list goes on.

Microsoft released everything as seperate add ons whereas sony built everything in, even the online gaming is free. By the time you've upgraded the 360, the ps3 is cheaper and you get the blu-ray drive which looks stunning.

Im not knocking the quality of this console because for 3 years i've played some great games and i've never had any breakdowns (the hdmi console has a new cooler chipset in it)its the price of everything for it i dont like.

Lastly, the ps3 lets you use any sata 2.5 drive in it whereas the 360 only accepts the microsoft branded ones.

to summarise, this console is ruined by microsoft corporation's greed.
