3.0 out of 5 stars Not perfect by far - covers xna studio 1.0 not new version which is 2.0, 25 May 2008
i bought this book as i'm a student learning computer games development at the university of glamorgan, i have found the book good so far, as i have got to chapter 5. it has been written well and easy to understand (though not for beginners!!), however the book deals with the xna games studio 1.0, which is obsolete, however the content so far, especially the code still works, and discusses the best ways to check the performance of the game, how to create 2d and 3d objects and it works in xna studio 2.0 as it would in 1.0.

However there has been one typo in the coding that i have found so far (in the first project after the explanation of spacewar, the addition of image files, he uses texture instead of spritetexture, it took me about 30 seconds to debug and find this error but less experienced users would find it much harder, like i would've 2 years ago).

There is a lack of clarity in some parts where you can think does he mean do this or do that? which is up to you to decipher and try both ways.

However these small problems aside, the book will give you a decent understanding of xna (not c#, however if you know c++, like myself or another language like JAVA and understand the basics and have an understanding of maths such as matrix's and vector, then you will be ok.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good choice, 3 Nov 2008
By J. Falk "Falken" (Sweden) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Before buying this book I have played around some with XNA and teached myself a little. Having intermediate C# knowledge and being a beginner in XNA this book is easy to follow and understand. A great plus is that all the code is in the book, so you never have to look through the source code on the CD if something isn't working. Althought there could been a bit better organization of the chapter I am happy with my purchase of this book and would definetly recommend it to others :)
