5.0 out of 5 stars 5* choice 25 Feb 2012
Amazon Verified Purchase
Having seen my friends struggle on their laptops with the scroll pad and trying for myself with great difficulty on my new Sony laptop, l decided there had to be a better way. Searching the internet for a wireless mouse l decided on the Microsoft 3500 in part because it was recommended for Windows 7 and also highly rated in reviews. The added bonus was Amazon was selling it at half the price of Comet. Would have liked the white version, to match up with my white laptop, but just couldn't justify the price hike. Has an off switch underneath, but l forget to turn it off sometimes. Not sure if it's much of a drain on the battery. Pity it doesn't switch off with the laptop. Now couldn't be without it. 5*

5.0 out of 5 stars Very happy with the product 9 Mar 2011
I was looking 4 a comfortable and easy 2 use wireless mouse. I've found it! The mouse does exactly what it says it should. Installation was quick and simple and I can use the mouse wherever I want, even on the arm of the sofa!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good product 6 Feb 2011
Breaking it down into pro's and con's:

Pro's:
* Bluetrack really works! I am planning on upgrading my desktop also to a Bluetrack mouse. It works on surfaces a normal laser mouse doesn't. The only place it did not work on is when I tried it on the dog's head (that was not well received by the dog).
* Feels and looks sturdy. I like the rubbery feel.
* No issue with installing the mouse. Just plug it in and it works (Win7 Prof 64bit)
* Large scroll wheel. This is really important to me. The higher model (4000) has a smooth scroll-wheel and this one has a larger wheel with a gear kind of feel. I have not used the higher model but I hate a smooth scroll wheel especially if it is small. As soon as a bit of dust gets into the mechanism the smooth one will be terrible to use (from previous experience with MS mice).

Con's:
* Middle click button (for a third button) is a bit over iffy. If you keep the mouse 100% still and then click on it. It works. But just moving the mouse slightly or not pressing it all the way makes the free scroll option appear (that I hate) in a browser. I am hoping this will correct itself as I press down on the middle button more (I use it quite a lot when opening a link to a new tab in a browser.
* No software to set mouse specific options (but then I have read complaints of bloat-ware if this is installed (available with the higher model)).

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb mouse for office/travel/even gaming 26 Jan 2012
Hello,

1. Design
Regular notebook size mouse, fits very nice (I only hold mice with 2 fingers on the buttons and fingertips on the sides, I do not rest my palm on the mouse.) Rubber to the sizes promote grip and quality. The mouse feels solid when lifted up, no moving parts inside. Slots at the bottom to keep the USB receiver for travel is very practical.
Power switch at the works better for me than a push button. The laser is blue, which looks better than red!

2. Connectivity and Travel
This is a wireless mouse so no cable to carry around (almost a given but worth mentioning because the top of the line gaming mobile mouse comes with cable...) It is very compact and fits in my laptop bag very well. Also I do a lot of travel due to work, from commuting on the tubes to flying... and the mouse is always with me so lots of shuffling and being tossed around which should wear the mouse out faster than normal but it's still going 100% after 1 year. The USB receiver works really nice, almost never need to wait for windows to install drivers. I use it on my work laptop which runs Windows 7 Professional 64bit and my personal one which is 32bit and never have a problem. I used it on client and friends laptops also and never have a problem either.

3. Battery life
Seriously I had the mouse for almost a year and use it everyday and some in the evening also and sometimes forget to turn it off. So that's how much I use it everyday yet I completely forget what kind of battery it uses... because the last time I changed the battery was too long ago. That's how good the battery life is. a single AA battery will last you a few months. I turn the mouse off when I sign off at work and before I go to bed. If you never turn it off I suspect your mileage will vary...

5.0 out of 5 stars Great portable mouse 11 Oct 2011
By Grahame
Amazon Verified Purchase
This is my second similar Microsoft portable mouse - the first now lives somewhere in Peru!

Buying a second, near identical mouse was a no brainer. I think Bluetrack optical technology is brilliant. Mouse works on any surface (really, really any surface!), so it is great for travelling - sitting up in bed, in an aircaft, on a train, at a formica topped table, etc, without any need for a mat.

Mouse is a little small for my (large) hand, but perfectly useable and very portable - and easy to lose! Battery life seem nearly infinite - a year on and I have not changed a battery. Wireless USB plug is tiny and stays plugged in on my netbook at all times.

The mouse is not a replacement for a decent, weighty, ergonomic, wireless desktop mouse with lots of buttons and sensuous curves, but it is reliable, lightweight, highly portable and it works anywhere. Oh, and it's good value! Can't ask for more.

4.0 out of 5 stars A well-made basic mouse for home and travel 18 Feb 2013
Amazon Verified Purchase
I've been looking for a mouse as an alternative to my laptop touchpad which would mostly be used around the home, but which could go on the road with me true. The Mouse 3500 fits the bill quite well.

Ergonomically, it's similar in width and height to the basic Mouse 1000, but is a couple of centimetres shorter; in practice I don't really feel the difference as I use a finger grip. The full-sized buttons have a light, clicky response and the click wheel - although small - is very well-placed and nicely textured. It's a little on the stiff side which means that it doesn't roll quite as smoothly as I like but that might ease off over time. An unexpected perk is the grippy material applied to the nicely-countoured sides. It glides smoothly and easily over my mouse pad.

Bluetrack works as advertised. Although I've not had much reason to, the mouse seems to track reliably and surprisingly smoothly across all sorts of flat and rumpled surfaces. You really can use it on your leg, although the arm of a chair is a bit more practical. Sensitivity is good too. I keep my mouse speed cranked up to reduce the amount of movement I have to make the mouse keeps up really well.

The "nano" transceiver lives in the side of my laptop unobtrusively and talks to the mouse over quite a long range. I've been able to walk out of the room and still get a response so it's more than adequate. On some of Microsoft's mobile mice, plugging the transceiver into the mouse turns the mouse off for travel. On this mouse, there's a power switch instead, which is actually very convenient. I don't have to unplug the transceiver to save the mouse battery. Speaking of which, it takes a single included AA battery, and I'll update the review when it runs out.
