I purchased this book which was one of three on Sharepoint. We have just implemented this at work and I was one of the administrators put in charge of this. I had no experience of Sharepoint before this although i had designed many websites before.
This book is excellent at taking you through all the stages of creating your Sharepoint site, giving you example scenarios to set up to get you used to all the navigation and relevant settings. This book is more for designing your site with loads of helpful hints and tips.
If you need a book for installing and configuring Sharepoint then I recommend Microsoft Sharepoint Producet Technolgies which is a far more advanced for the administering of. But to get you up and running with the design then Microsoft Windows SharePoint Services is more than capable of doing this.

This book is NOT about Windows SharePoint Services 3.0, nor is it about what tends to be talked about as SharePoint which is MOSS. It's about the SharePoint Services that came free with Windows 2003 Server (a product which is now 8 years old). If you want to know about SharePoint, don't start here.

SharePoint Guru says save your money 8 Mar 2005
By SharePoint Guru - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book misses the mark from the beginning. The first chapters attempt to combine an overview of Windows SharePoint Services and Portal Server with details of individual commands. Jim Buyens is an excellent FrontPage author, but this book provides little more than what is in the better organized documentation.

Simply the best book on the subject. 24 Aug 2005
By Michael Cizmar - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
After purchasing 6 others on the subject of Windows Sharepoint Services, I find that this has the best information on the broad subject of WSS. The book is not perfect but its a fairly easy read and the examples are some what real world.

Good book about WSS 1 Jun 2005
By G. Husman - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This book is a good introduction to MS Windows SharePoint Services (i.e. not SPS). I liked the broad coverage of all WSS features, and not least the introduction to use FrontPage 2003 for enhancing the design and functionality of WSS, plus a short introduction to Web Part development. It is easy to read, even for non-SharePoint guru's. I can recommend it as an introduction to WSS.
