This was brought from Amazon and not from Amazon marketplace sellers. It is the original Microsoft OEM version of Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. Inside the pack there is a Microsoft Windows 7 Pro 64-bit install disc and the COA (Certificate Of Authenticity) Label.
I used it to upgraded my old Vista desktop computer by installing it on a new SSD so I didn't have to worry about copying/backing up data from the old hard drive as it became the secondary drive.
It was a simple procedure to open up my computer and plug in my new drive. I entered BIOS settings and set boot up from optical drive and activated the AHCI setting (only if you're install a ssd). Then save and exit the BIOS settings and waited for my computer to start up (make sure you have the install disc in your optical drive).
The on screen instructions were simple to follow and I entered the serial number when asked (see COA Label). After disc installation, I used windows update, there were over 180 critical/important fixes. The whole thing took about an hour.
I find Windows 7 to be way better than Vista (and Win 8.1) so it was a worthwhile upgrade and my computer should have a few more years of useful life.
The disk which I received was a Dell OEM one but it was brand new with a verification sticker and installed without difficulty. I did have to verify it by phone (rather than at installation) but the code was accepted without any trouble through the automated process. I bought the disk in order to be able to dual-boot Windows 8.1 and Windows 7 and that is what I can now do. So... result!
It is from MS, Installs well, with no other firms headings on boot up. Will install a lot of my older MS software even Win 98 floppy discs using a usb Teac drive unit. ( Did have to install MS 2003 Word first then it takes them.) I still find the old ones useful. Loads the newer software no problem. The install coding is small print but readable.
Windows 7 Pro Sp1.. what more is there is there to say.... far better than Windows 8 or 8.1 (unless you have a touch screen)... just remember OEM is for new PC's being sold to someone else, and the person selling is responsible for all the support, Microsoft won't give any general help if you were to need it
.. all works fine, with no issues during installation on my dated but still relevant, Dell D630! I would recommend this product to anyone wishing to breathe a new lease of life into an older, higher spec machine.
My order arrived within 24hours. The software is now installed without any great difficulty and I am finding my way around. To date I am very satisfied and once I am familiar with all it has to offer I am confident it will serve me well for the next few years.
