COMPLETE Reference for the web, and a great doorstop!,

This book was my first foray into hardcore reference material and admit that when I received it was a bit dissapointed because there were absolutely no pictures!However, don't be dismayed by this, after a few weeks I stumbled with a particular element or property of HTML, CSS, VBScript etc. and suddenly found that I had THE most comprehensive resource right at my fingertips! If you need clear, concise reference with the above languages, then I really MUST recommend that you have this on your bookshelf. You will probably find that it resides right next to your mouse though.... Beware, this book is heavy!

Online Help in a Book: THAT'S ALL, REALLY,

If you go to the online help for Visual Studio and select the VID view, you get the same info that's in this book. That's not all bad. I like the linear presentation and organization real-view of the book. I purchased Amundsen's _Using VID 6_ as a first book and missed the useful catalogue type listing of ALL objects, methods and properties. In the help files you have the hotlinks, that's about the only difference. Be forewarned, even with a User's Manual & Programmer's Ref, VID does not give sufficient examples for the novice or even an intermediate programmer. Pretty big intuitive leaps are needed to arrive at what seems a simple logical step. The VID Web Ref helps by providing a linear view of multi-dimensional hypervolume.

This book is a great reference, what it does not do is teach you how to use the technologies, but this is not a book designed to teach, it is a pure reference tome, and in this capacity it excels, this book is one of the best reference books I have bought. My only criticism is that there is not an included CD with the book on it, as if you need to carry the book any distance you will need to hire porters. Overall a great investment.
