I have attempted to study programming using various self study books in the past, and invariably always given up after a few chapters. I found this book a refreshing approach. I now see why my motivation waned using the more traditional self-study programming texts: there is too much detail and a lot of them are more like reference books attempting to cover everything in intricate detail.

In this book you are actually *doing* things, and quickly. Of course this means that you will invariably have some questions and need to seek more information at various times. I felt that using the documentation or other online resources were enough, when I wanted to know more. I think if you are an experienced programmer you should probably look at another title, as some of the concepts are explained from the ground up.

The layout is colourful and the book small enough to carry around. It is nice to have the Visual C# Express CD at the back of the book, so you have everything to get started (without the long download).
