5.0 out of 5 stars Simply wow..! 29 Dec 2012
Colour Name:Surface|Verified Purchase
I was a bit sceptical of buying a tablet for the money this cost, but I am glad I did!

I was using the folks Kindle fire, and their Google Nexus tablet, and they were quite good, but I couldn't get on with them. I find Ice Cream Sandwich a bit clunky these days, multitasking hasn't really been tackled properly on iOS and Android (or hasn't been revisited for a fair while).

This Surface has come out and tackled my Gras with multitasking, instead of double tapping on a button or being forced to reopen an application from the window to resume, you simply swipe in from the left, it is so intuitive! Also, I never knew how to actually close apps properly on those devices, with this, again it is easy, simply swipe from the t all the way to the bottom, and it is gone.

One thing that I didn't read about before buying, and really was the icing on the cake, was you can have two applications open side by side, so you can have twitter, Facebook, messaging or anything else in a 5th of the space, and watch Player, 4od, lovefilm etc. With the rest of the space. Something I have wanted on a phone/tablet since Windows 7 was released.

The more you use this, the more you grow to respect the fine details, and understand Microsofts mentality.

The app store holds nearly 300k of apps now and is fast growing, it will be competing with iOS and Android in just a few months.

5.0 out of 5 stars Such an amazing product 3 May 2013
Colour Name:Surface
I don't usually write many reviews, but I thought that I would definitely write one for Microsoft's Surface RT.

Let me first start by telling you that I wasn't sure at all if I wanted one. I saw the launch event and then started watching peoples unboxing videos and then I started to get bad impressions about it after. I really wanting to get one and after what was said about them put me off. let me go through why I think this has been such a good buy for me in the end, after deciding to take my chance getting one. Warranted, what I think may not represent everyone else's needs and tastes but I hope it will put a few things into perspective for you :)

1. Lack of Apps...
I could see that there was a huge amount of people decrying this amazing piece of art because of the lack of Apps available on the App Store. Now having been an iPad user over these years myself, I knew this was going to be a problem. And having used a Windows phone I knew this would be definitely a make or break point for me. Let me put something into perspective here. Firstly - and again this is not everyone's point of view - but Apps are great for phones. Ever since Apple started the App Store on iOS it has been a big hit, why? Because your phone these days are pocket devices that we need to get to things or find things out really fast and simple, or communicate of course, without having to use the World Wide Web. We need to have Apps on phones, this is a must and Windows don't in my opinion have the amount of Apps we need to keep us going, or most of us might I add. This is why I still love Android and iOS more. But as for Tablets or Computers? We might need the odd one here or there but it's not the end of the world because most of the time going to web is a much better experience.

5.0 out of 5 stars Stop Wondering And Buy A Microsoft Surface 29 Nov 2012
Colour Name:Surface
31.12.12 UPDATE - It's been over a month since writing this, you'll now need an even bigger mug of coffee before you start reading, as I feel the need to add more information to my review. The experience has got even better.

Approaching 50 yrs young, I've been into gadgets since I was young. I'm not a "fan boy" of any particular manufacturer. So, as such I own:

MacBook Pro
iPad 3 "Retina"
Windows 7 Laptop & PC
Samsung Galaxy Note

I hope in advance that you can therefore see I'm going to give a balanced view point.

Firstly, just to dispel some myths about the Microsoft Surface.

1: You can easily type really well on the touch cover!

I've my own version of touch-typing, like many of you - I've typed for so long that I know where the keys are. Despite the "new" experience of typing on a keyboard, that lacks tactile-feel obviously, the experience is great. It is no more taxing than adapting to a keyboard that has different spacing's - like typing on a new laptop for example.

2: You can use the Desktop side of Windows 8 RT fine with your finger!

I've no idea why educated people on many technical websites have been negative about using a finger to navigate the Windows 8 desktop environment. I can only imagine that the aim was to mislead readers, and help them drag the review score down. Quite a few sites are sadly biased towards certain platforms.

It will cause you no hardship at all, to explore the areas you would on a home PC with a mouse, on the Microsoft Surface with your finger. You can liken it to simply navigating internet links on your iPhone, Blackberry - or anything else with a touch screen.

So what does the Win 8 experience hold for those moving from XP, Vista etc?
