This review is from: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Administration for Oracle DBAs (Paperback)
As an Oracle DBA starting to work with SQL Server I found the terminology defined quite well and especially the on the job sections are helpful in that they clarify the salient points quite well.
Excellent starting point for Oracle DBAs to understand the SQL Server database differences.
I find it great for reference in both explanations and diagrams.

5.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended for both Oracle DBAs and cross technology managers, 19 Nov 2010
This review is from: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Administration for Oracle DBAs (Paperback)
I can highly recommend this book, its is a clear and easy read allowing not only Oracle DBA's to get a firm foundation knowledge for SQL server but for cross technology managers like myself to have a comparable understanding of the technologies my teams need to manage.

The book structure is also structured in a way that you can focus on the areas of concern immediately without having to progress chapter to chapter.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for Oracle DBA who need to manage SS, 14 Dec 2010
By Sandeep S. Bhatia - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Administration for Oracle DBAs (Paperback)
This is an excellent resource for Oracle DBAs who have to manage SQL Server databases. The author understands an Oracle DBA's perspective of looking at the database and has explained the how-to for SS DB from that perspective. Understanding the architecture of a new database can be daunting, esp. if you are an Oracle DBA and know the importance of understanding the architecture. I have not found many books which do a good job at it.

The book is complete in the topics and can get an Oracle DBA or anyone who wants to manage a SS Database, to get to the job with the help of the understanding that is gained from this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Makes the understanding of SS2008 easier, 29 May 2011
By Eric L. Yen - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Administration for Oracle DBAs (Kindle Edition)
I wanted to learn SS2008 quickly. This book presented the material well and made it easy. Comparisons to Oracle made the conversion to SS2008 smooth.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wish this book had been around years ago, 9 Dec 2011
By Database Goddess - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Administration for Oracle DBAs (Paperback)
A fellow DBA at my company and I have remarked over the years that it would be so great if there was a book for Oracle DBAs that explained the correspondence between commands and techniques for SQL Server versus Oracle. Now it's here so we ordered a copy. These days, most employers want you to take care of SQL Server databases as well as Oracle ones so this book fills an important need. I will update this review when I've finished the book. I'm only on Chapter five now but, so far, excellent.
