Product Description

Product Description

Microsoft Outlook 2010 offers premium business and personal e-mail management tools to more than 500 million Microsoft Office users worldwide. With the release of Outlook 2010, you get a richer set of experiences to meet your communication needs at work, home, and school.

From a redesigned look to advanced e-mail organisation, search, communication and social networking features, Outlook 2010 provides you with a world-class experience to stay productive and in touch with your personal and business networks.

Save time viewing, creating, and managing your e-mail
Think about how much e-mail you receive in a typical week today versus a typical week five years ago. We've redesigned Outlook 2010 to reflect these changes in your lifestyle and help keep up with the vast amounts of information you receive every day.

  • Manage large amounts of e-mail with ease. Condense, categorise, or even ignore entire conversations with a few clicks. With new conversation management tools and the improved Conversation View, dozens of messages can turn into just a few relevant items.

  • Send the right information to the right people and respond to e-mails rapidly. Mail Tips instantly alert you to potential distribution issues and Quick Steps take the multi-stepped tasks you perform most down to just a single click.1

Get easier access to the right tools
Locate the commands you need where you want them.

The improved Ribbon, available across Office 2010 applications, makes it easy to uncover more commands so you can focus on the end product rather than how to get there.

  • Easily configure new and existing accounts, clean up your inbox, and visually see how much space is left in your mailbox. These are just a few of the many features available from the new Microsoft Office Backstage view. Backstage view replaces the traditional File menu in all Office 2010 applications to provide a centralised, organised space to manage your accounts and customise your Outlook experience.

Connect with people and stay up to date
Whether you're managing a team or organising a family event, it's important to stay connected to people inside and outside your office or home. Outlook 2010 brings together various e-mail and communication networks so that staying connected with the people you care about is fast, simple, and fun.

  • Combine multiple e-mail accounts, calendars, and address books and easily manage them from a single, centralised view.
  • Manage your schedule using the new Schedule View. View multiple Outlook calendars, Windows Live, or other shared calendars, in a streamlined horizontal display.
  • View the availability of a person and reach out to them using a variety of communication methods--all on a new easy-to-access contact card.2

  • Get additional information about people, such as mutual friends and other social information, and stay better connected to your social and business circles through the new Outlook Social Connector.

Access your vital information anywhere, anytime
Check e-mail anywhere and quickly locate those important addresses and phone numbers when you need them. Now you can stay connected to your work and personal contacts by taking the new Outlook experience with you. It's easy to keep on top of things while you're on the go.

  • Microsoft Outlook Web App: Stay up to date and in touch. View your e-mail messages, contacts, and calendar events stored on Exchange Server using a Web browser.3
  • Microsoft Outlook Mobile 2010: Sync Outlook 2010 with an enhanced mobile version of Outlook specifically suited to your Windows phone.4

Manage your inbox, schedule, and contacts with ease, connect to various e-mail and social networks and obtain anywhere access to your information.

3.0 out of 5 stars Stand alone Outlook crippled 21 Jan 2011

Do you know that the functionality of Outlook 2010 varies according to whether you install it:

* as part of a 2010 Office suite; or
* as a free standing programme even if you also have Word in Office Home & Student 2010?

I found some features of Outlook 2010 (eg "Themes") were greyed out although I had done a full install. Microsoft technical support said this was deliberate. You only got all the features if you install Outlook as part of an Office suite which includes both Word and Outlook. Thus, if you buy Office Home & Student 2010 (ie the cheap Office version) you don't get Outlook included. If you then buy Outlook 2010 you don't get the full feature package. This is my case. I found this result unbelievable. It is also highly questionable marketing practice because you get no warning in the adverts.

Outlook relies on Word for some advanced features so I could understand it if you bought Outlook but not Word. But why shouldn't you get the advanced features if you buy Outlook and Word separately?

What doesn't work unless you install as part of an Office package? The following according to Microsoft:

Themes
Automatic formatting of bulleted and numbered lists
Automatic formatting of tables
Proofing tools like the dictionary and thesaurus
SmartArt graphics drawing, charting, and diagramming tools
Captions
Equation Builder
WordArt

5.0 out of 5 stars Reviews not always helpful 24 Mar 2011

I've read so many reviews about the different types of Microsoft Office products, 2007 v. 2010 that my brain was scrambled. I have just updated my computer and have now got a laptop. I didn't realise that I wouldn't get a Microsoft Suite disc with it, only the already installed Windows 7 and something called Offfice.org - I couldn't get to grips with that. So I installed my old Office Suite 2003 and updated it to 2007 running it with compatability to my old operating system Windows XP SP 3 (rather a backward step I felt) so I now had a fast computer and an old programme - I didn't feel I'd gained much except a big hole in my bank account.
I then went into the realms of this versus that, complete office suite against stand alone programmes, I had reviews coming out of my ears, so I stepped back from it all and thought "what do I want"? I'm not an executive whizz kid and I'm not attached to my laptop at the hip, I just wanted an email programme and a word processing package for home use. Incidentally no-one offers advice for people like me, novices in the programme field. After all the horror stories of people updating from 2007 to 2010 and incompatability issues along with deletion of important documents I decided the best thing for me would be to uninstall all previous programmes and install my two new stand-alones from scratch.
I am delighted to report that every document I have on my computer is still there, they work perfectly with my new 2010 programmes and have cost me half the price
For those of you who like me just want an email programme and a word processor, forget all the office suites just get the two stand-alones - Microsoft Office Word and Microsoft Office Outlook. Unistalling previous versions only removes the programme not your documents. Hope this will help someone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Makes managing emails easier 24 Jun 2010
By Paul W TOP 500 REVIEWER
I run my own small online business and I get many, many hundreds of important emails each week from customers and suppliers.

Outlook 2007 really didn't make life easy in terms of searching and tracking emails. I might get a customer email saying "A few months ago you said you'd give me 20% off" and finding the original email to verify this was not easy with Outlook 2007s rather poor search facility that often failed to find the right email and often gave a long list of wrong emails. Often I'd give up and manually try and find it - not a quick task with so many emails.

In Office 2010 the search facility has been massively improved. The search is much more effective at bringing back what you want. It also has advanced options like "all emails in the last week", "Emails with attachments" and so on. This alone really has made my life easier.

But in addition to that it has the "People Pane" - though with some of my customers maybe it should be people who are a pain! Anyway this handy little window hides at the bottom of the email and lets you click it and see at a glance past emails between you and the person. Again this is very, very useful as often my customers might email once 6 months ago, then again a few times a month ago and finally lots of times recently before buying my product. Now I can easily track what they said to me and I to them.

The new "Quick Steps" functionality is also handy for automating simple jobs. For example I put any emailed bills in a "Payments Made" folder. Normally this means dragging and dropping over from the inbox to the payments made folder. Sometimes I'd accidently drop too early and then have to work out where it went.

5.0 out of 5 stars Microsoft Outlook 2010 5 Mar 2011
By Stephen
I could not install my old Outlook 2003 on my new computer so had no choice but to buy Outlook 2010. I thought it was rather expensive but all is now forgiven as it surpasses all previous versions by miles. Amazing search and easy to ue features. Highly recommended.
