First things first, this is a great piece of software. If your computers can support it then it runs quick, it's slick, and it does everything you want from a small business piece of office software. It's good. Seriously.

But then again, so was Office 2003, and the thing is, this doesn't do stuff so much better. You're on a learning curve with the new interface, and though after some initial work it's arguably better in the short run you're still looking at time put in, if not training costs.

If you're running Office 2003, stay with it while you can. But if you're looking at new office software, Office 2007 beats everything out there hands down.

I was bounced into buying Office Small Business 2007 by Microsoft, whose Windows Genuine Advantage spyware discovered that my old and trustworthy copy of Office 2003 was, shall we say, of somewhat irregular provenance. From the Amazon reviews, I fully expected that getting used to the new office suite would be sheer misery. Imagine my surprise, then, when I found Office 2007 to be beautifully designed, fast, intuitive and easy to use. After a couple of hours of practice, I felt quite at home. Some users might object to the new appearance and layout, and those who hardly ever use a mouse but prefer to use keyboard instructions may find things rather challenging at first. But for those like me who are mouse users and who require not much beyond Word and Excel, Office 2007 should more than fit the bill. I was delighted to find, incidentally, that I can open Word 2003 files without any difficulty, and that I can save files in a form compatible with Word 2003. So far so good, in other words, and highly recommended.

Frankly I have better things to do with my time than re-learn software I was already proficient at using. Office 2003 was an excellent piece of software; 2007 is definately a retrograde step with many of 2003's most useful functions either removed or much more difficult to find.

Buy this and your productivity will drop
Once you get to grips with this it is fine, it does (I think) reduce eye strain due to the larger size buttons, BUT THIS VERSION TAKES WEEKS TO LEARN. Read more
