An excellently written book with very user friendly practice files that walk you through creating forms, reports and some query functions.
However, once read I was still left with questions that I hoped the book would answer. How do you format a ribbon? Only 3 query types are covered and not enough attention is given to reports and forms.
For me, brushing up on access skills after 7 years, it got me back into Access but where is the sequel to finish the course?
I Had high hopes for this book but am disappointed.

I have used the series before and found it very helpful without the irritating jokeness you get with the Dummies Guides. The CD comes with many useful examples that really helped me to learn quickly. I don't think it's a complete guide but it is extremely good as a beginners guide.

This book takes you a bit deeper than a simple 'guide to office 2007' and as I got it reduced I was happy with the value for the money. I am interested in doing more with Access than I have in the past and this does scratch the surface in a number of areas; however I would suggest that to produce your own application a more specialist (and dearer) book would be required. On the plus side I now feel more literate in Access than I was.
NB - this does not teach database theory nor SQL in case you were wondering.

The book is quite big and can be daunting to any newcomer. Using commonsense you can work things out for yourself. I still think the book is a good buy but on the big side
