After a dalliance with Linux - Ubuntu and Macbuntu - I have to say it's a joy to be back with bloody Microsoft. It's the girlfriend you understand even when she's got a blackhead on the end of her nose. W7 is the best of the Windows operating systems - stripped back, fast and fine on my 3 year old laptop.
I loaded from fresh so I can't tell you about compatibility issues (not sure it'd work with my 10 year old HP Laserjet)and you need to format your hard drive to NTFS (which you have to do before installing) but apart from that everything went smoothly.
And, if you are wondering whether you should go for the 'proper' version, I wouldn't bother - when did you last try and get support from Windows?
The laptop now takes pride of place as part of my TV setup - supplying internet access to the Xbox and letting me watch TV Catchup and BBC iPlayer - can't say fairer.

Well I have avoided Windows 7 for some time although it is on my Laptop. Since moving over completely I have had quite a lot of succes and do not need to refer to Manual too often. A manual is essential whilst you are trying to tranfer to Win 7. There is not one with the Disc!

I put the CD in the drive, answered 2 or 3 simple on screen questions about my location etc, and a few minutes later Windows 7 was installed.
I am not sure what the difference is between this and the full version. I heard this OEM version is only for a clean install, however I was already running an unlicensed Windows 7 Ultimate and it offered me choice to either Upgrade the windows version, or to do a Clean Install.
Anyway, I think there is absolutely no reason to pay extra for the full non-OEM version.
