I have MCE on my laptop, and it mostly works, but I use my laptop for work stuff and not play stuff so I decided to build a multimedia machine. I figured I'd get windows xp MCE since the concept looked cool and would probably work better than on my laptop.
I was wrong. I have a pinnacle usb tuner I use on my laptop, and it works okay with MCE, but on my new machine, I can only get the sound and no picture with the very same tuner. The only thing I can figure is that I did not update the windows on my laptop (don't want Bill digging through my work stuff), and I updated the new machine.
Playback is limited too, it has some problems with codecs or something, It locked up the machine and I had to reset. And when I play dvds, the volume seems to go quiet. That's probably user error to be fair.
I wish it had handy instructions, but I guess the layout is mostly intuitive. I like the concept, I just wish I could get more of it to work. It looks and feels neat, it'd be even more neat if I can get stuff to work right. My friend say it's because I am not connected to the internet so that Bill can rifle through my files.
Oh, and before I forget, I have three tv tuners, but by design, the media center will only use up to two of them. And, one of them has to tune to analog for some reason. Of course, it would be even better if I could get a picture out of it.
I guess I am not entirely happy with it
