3.0 out of 5 stars A dictionary with comments, 17 Dec 1999
By p.leahy@x400.icl.co.uk (Dublin, Ireland) - See all my reviews
When I ordered this book, I thought I would get a manual. This is nothing more than a dictionary with some comments. I also expected detailed descriptions of the different types of manuals --such as user guides, sytem administration guides etc. It should be renamed as it hardly merits the title "Manual of Style for Technical Publications". If you want a list of on-screen terms, it is worth buying. If you want a reference manual for technical writing, forget it.

1.0 out of 5 stars Useless for anyone outside of Microsoft, 27 Jul 1999
By A Customer
This book reads like an intenal Microsoft document written to assist their tech writers write Microsoft manuals. Too Microsoft-centric. If you want to write tech manuals for Microsoft or manuals that feature Microsoft products and functions and want to follow all of Microsoft's style guidelines, then this book is great. For the rest of the world, useless.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hey! They had the time and budget to do it. Leverage it!, 30 April 1997
By A Customer
You know that you and your team need to improve the situation regarding your style book. But who can actually do it? Right! In the spare minute and a half between intense projects? No, you wouldn't want MS to define even more of your writing life than WORD already has. However, if you can all just agree to this easy to use book as a default, your lives will become a little less contentious. Ahhhhhhh...
