The mouse connects via USB, though a PS/2 converter is also supplied. The package comes with Intellipoint 4.1 software and is straightforward to install. It works with Windows 98 and all later versions of Windows. It's also compatible with Mac OS 8.6/9x/10.1. Unlike traditional mice, the Microsoft Blue Optical Mouse doesn't contain a ball. Instead it uses a high intensity LED and optical sensor to detect movement. This negates the need for regular cleaning and also provides greater precision.
During testing, the Microsoft Blue Optical Mouse performed well. It's comfortable to use, and precise. The buttons and wheel are responsive and accurate. Combine this with the durable construction and you have a mouse that is well worth the investment. --Jason Weston
Optical technology replaces the old-fashioned mechanical mouse ball and works on virtually any surface, meaning accuracy will not be lost due to wear and the accumulation of dust and dirt.
Instead, Optical Mouse Blue uses an optical sensor which scans the surface beneath the mouse and accurately tracks the mouse cursor movement.
Optical Mouse Blue features blue detailing, Microsofts signature glowing red underside and taillight, and ergonomic enhancements to provide comfort for left and right-handed users.

It's like it's gliding on a cushion of air,

This review is from: Microsoft Blue Optical Mouse (Accessory)
I decided to buy this mouse after having a good few microsoft mice, but my Intellimouse Explorer went a bit wacky after being dropped one two many times.First thing I noticed was that the sound of it's click is a deeper sound than usual. This does not effect usage and actually makes other mice sound load in comparison. As others have said the scroll wheel is very easy to scroll, but it's not enough for it to scroll by it's self, or for it to scroll by it's self if knocked. It's quite relaxing to use as it requires no pressure to scroll. The third mouse button click isn't like on other mice where it feels kind of rubbery. It is more like a normal mouse click making the wheel feel more firm and solid than usual. The wheel has plenty of grip, coupled with it's soft scrolling makes it a very gentle wheel to use. The sides of the mouse are concave making it more ergonomic than your average mouse, but also makes it suitable for both right and left handed people. The mouse is light weight and the movement is very nice, as if it's got a cushion of air underneath it. This is because the pads underneath are polished. Out the box it does have a very suttle polished surface friction, but that will fade with usage. I'm not sure about endurance, because I'm not about to start whacking it against a wall just to test, but it's very sturdy with no creaking plastic. Accuracy is the best I have ever seen in a mouse. I can actually go into paint colour one pixel (without zooming in), change colour and then click on the exact same pixel (without zooming in) to change it's colour. Bad points, to be honest it's a mouse and unless there was a design flaw that gave you cramp or something then it has no negatives. And this mouse certainly doesn't. Some have mentioned that the light on the back is very bright, but it is no brighter than the light on the MS Explorer or any other optical mouse I have seen or used. All in all this mouse might not be the cheapest mouse money can buy, but it's worth every penny and continues Microsoft's traditions of making extremely high quality accessories that actually make you fell happy that you bought them.

Ergonomic, Silver, Smart & Cheap,
By A Customer
This review is from: Microsoft Blue Optical Mouse (Accessory)
I just bought a Microsoft Optical Mouse Blue from Amazon. So far I am happy with my purchase. The mouse has a very ergonomic shape, filling the palm of your hand, making it comfortable to hold and use. I previously had a Sony VAIO mouse, which was very small and flat, and uncomfortable to hold. In the product photos, this mouse appears to be blue and white. So, as you can imagine, I was surprised when I received mine from Amazon to discover that it was blue and SILVER. Yes, this mouse is blue and silver! Some reviewers have complained about the scroll wheel. While it's perhaps not as stiff as those found on other mice, it's effortless to use and functions effectively. What I like about this mouse is the fact that it ISN'T wireless. Sure, wireless mice are technologically impressive and look cool, but do you really want to be worrying about things like charging up your mouse, changing it's batteries, and keeping an eye on it's remaining power? With a wired mouse you don't have to worry about any of these factors; it just works.

red light? why?,
This review is from: Microsoft Blue Optical Mouse (Accessory)
I found no problems in using this mouse, but I just can't stand the fact that its red led light stays on all the time. Even when the computer is switched off. It's such a pointless waste of electricity. why would I want to see my mouse in the dark if the computer isn't even switched on? I'd have to unplug either the mouse or the computer to get my bedroom to totally dark at night.
