Product details

They always say that God is in the detail, and the Flight simulator team have proved it here. The main difference you will notice straight away is in the landscape detail, taking on ideas that they have learnt through previous versions and their work on Microsoft Train Simulator (it's the same team), they have produced scenery that is very impressive. The sea shimmers in the sunlight, while waves crash against the sea shore. Improved detail also means that certain cities like Las Vegas have character to them--you can see the lights and fireworks at night--while some airports now have the ability for you to dock at specific gates.
It's not just the scenery though that has been improved and Microsoft Flight Simulator has now got a fully interactive Air Traffic Control system allowing you to request everything from landing procedures to traffic information. The need for a runway is no guarantee however, as the game has also introduced an amphibian plane to content with, allowing you to land on any lake, sea or river.
With so many features including downloadable live weather, multiplayer functions and even an analysis option to record your flights, this is one hefty product that will quench the thirst of any flight sim fan.
While the standard edition will give you virtually all you need for a flight sim game, the professional version is dedicated to those you know what they want. With additional planes, an editor to design your own planes and the impressive instructor feature over the Web--it allows you when practising with others over the Web to force errors--this edition is well worth the addition £20, and what's more at the moment Microsoft is offering £15 cash back.--Jason Denwood

This review is from: Flight Sim 2002 Professional (Video Game)
FS2002 Pro satisfies the entire spectrum of flight simmers, from those who simply want a quick "fly around", to those who prefer a more serious experience. I bought it 12 months ago and practise regularly - only recently have I been able to perfect landing a 737 400 under the "high realism" mode (crosswinds, gyro drift, etc). I run FS2002 on an Athlon XP2700 with a 128Mb Radeon 9700 Pro video card, and it comfortably delivers 60+ frames per second at 1280x1024 in 32-bit colour - very impressive indeed. I've yet to experience any bugs (unusual for MS), although flying over London you'll find the Millenium Dome opposite the Houses of Parliament !! Overall though, a superbly credible and almost too realistic simulation.

Its a good one baby!!,

I have been flying PC flight simulators for sometime but the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 Professional is unbelieveably real and lots of fun.The good part of the Simulator is that the airports and the scenery is very good, on the ground and from the air. Air Traffic Control is also pretty good. I love the wide range of aircrafts in the Simulator (Some of the interesting ones being the Bell Helicopter, the Cessna amphibious plane, the Learjet and the 777). I also like the fact that all the handbooks and the necessary material (even for each aircraft) is there on the CD and pilots can use much of this information to learn and understand what happens inside aircrafts and around airports. The part that i was disappointed about was the aircraft servicing at airports. ( I would have loved a docking gate with servicing vehicles around my plane looking to its needs after a long flight!) But i have no one to greet me at the destination airports. The Major airports do have a bit of air traffic on the ground and in the air, but the simulator should have had a lot more traffic at airports. In other words, a lot more activity around airports. But i guess it would also mean that our PCs would have to churn out more graphics. The simulator has plenty of third part suppliers who offer many more interesting aircrafts, or even scenery, Realistic Air Traffic Control and a lots more. So, if you play the game often, and you wish to add more realism or make it more interesting (like flying a Tornado Fighter over London), there is plenty to choose from in the market. Provided that you are willing to pay for it. Overall, i would not even hesitate in suggesting it. At Amazon.co.uk, the Microsoft Flight Simulator 2004 is out and unbelieveably, its cheaper than the 2002 game featured here! Though i havent played it, its supposed to be different and i've heard nothing but good about it. You might want to check it out and get the latest one, instead of the 2002 version although nothing is wrong with the latter. I doubt one could go wrong with either one.

This flight simulator is exelent. I own all of the flight simulators including the combat ones. It does not come much better than this. I think this one is the best of all the flight simulators. This has that extra potential to it. With new scenery and all the scenery add on packs it is as REAL as it CAN get!!!!!!!!!!
