They always say that God is in the detail, and the Flight simulator team have proved it here. The main difference you will notice straight away is in the landscape detail, taking on ideas that they have learnt through previous versions and their work on Microsoft Train Simulator (it's the same team) they have produced very impressive scenery. The sea shimmers in the sunlight, while waves crash against the seashore. Improved detail also means that certain cities like Las Vegas have character to them--you can see the lights and fireworks at night--while some airports now have the ability for you to dock at specific gates.
It's not just the scenery though that has been improved and Microsoft Flight Simulator has now got a fully interactive Air Traffic Control system allowing you to request everything from landing procedures to traffic information. The need for a runway is no guarantee however, as the game has also introduced an amphibian plane to contend with, allowing you to land on any lake, sea or river.
With so many features including downloadable live weather, multiplayer functions and even an analysis option to record your flights, this is one hefty product that will quench the thirst of any flight sim fan. --Jason Denwood
Flight Simulator 2002, Standard Edition includes a wide variety of aircraft for you to fly--from a new Cessna 208 Caravan floatplane to the Boeing 747-400 jumbo jet. You can splash down in a lake, hover in the Bell 206B JetRanger III helicopter, practice aerobatics in the Extra 300S, or fly like a famous World War II fighter ace in a Sopwith Camel. FS 2002 Standard includes a total of 12 aircraft.
The most dramatic new features common to both the standard and pro editions are the interactive air traffic control system, crowded skies, and auto-generated scenery. The interactive air traffic control feature adds a new dimension to Flight Simulator. Now you can ask for takeoff clearance, get vectors for an instrument approach, and hear other traffic as you fly. In fact, the "other traffic" is itself a new feature: a new artificial intelligence system generates air traffic around and between airports.
It'll be hard to pay attention to the air traffic, however, as the scenery in FS 2002 is so attractive. As you fly above cities, towns, farmland, and dramatic landscapes, Flight Simulator adds buildings and vegetation appropriate to the terrain below. Office buildings, factories, homes, farmhouses, and trees smoothly blend in on the horizon and fill the entire area with detail that adds unprecedented depth and reality to the game.
Other features include more than 21,000 airports, multiplayer capability, improved weather effects, a moving map and GPS system, in-depth flight analysis, and more.

Fantasy flights galore!!,
This review is from: Microsoft Flight Sim 2002 (PC) (Video Game)
well, what can i say, i have never seen a product so good as this. it is well polished with plenty of instruction lessions if , like me, you haven't got a clue about flying any aircraft. it isn't long before you are up in the air and away. the graphics on this must be seen, along with the air traffic control, the realism is something else! a great piece of learning software, think it will be some years before i try the real thing though!the great thing about this is that you get to learn the ins and outs of flying if you never gave it a thought before. there's alot to learn but you always progress even if sometimes it takes good pratice! so, if you are feeling like something to do one afternoon why not fly to paris or the usa in the comfort of your own house! buy it now & have NO regrets!

The Best Yet,

I've been a fan of FSim since 97. With each release it has always improved, although framerates have tended to go down. However if you haven't upgraded yet DO SO. This is just amazing! It looks great, the ATC is very good and it is very smooth. It looks nothing like FS2000, which in my opinion was a bit of a beta release. The autogenerated scenery at last gives a feeling of height when near the ground too.Go buy!

"AS REAL AS IT GETS" - YOU BET!,

First I'd like to ask a question to those of you reading this review who are thinking of buying FS2002; Why waste your time, why waste it thinking I mean? If you are even just remotely interested in aviation, then, if you can afford it, get it now- its worth the price. I've only had it a day, so the novelty factor is probably still high, and the fact that I'm a keen aviation enthusiast might make this review seem bias, but I'm writing the facts. There are quite a few similarities between this and FS2000, but the areas that have been "borrowed" have also been improved, to make an entirely new flight sim. The flight dynamics HAVE been improved, one thing I noticed was the rudder in the Bell chopper, its now more responsive, like a real chopper. Graphics HAVE been improved, they are very realistic, and create a very rich atmosphere. These two facts alone should be enough to buy FS2002, but for those of you still not too sure, then listen to this: ATC---you've no doubt heard its a new feature integrated into the sim, but it really IS integrated, what I mean is that all the time, on every flight, just as in real life, you'll need to request permission for things like taxiing and landing etc, and will hear other aircraft coming into to land and taking off etc. On one recent flight (my first) I had taken off, flown through most of the circuit, which was guided by ATC and superb graphics/sound, and was about to land second after a twin, but as they did not clear the active runway in time, I was issued with a go-around-and instantly impressed with the diversity of the sim, reflecting real modern day flight as acurately as possible. If you want realism, get this. I am constantly reminding myself that it is not a video, but in fact a highly realistic flight simulator, that I have the privilege of owning. It is definitely 'AS REAL AS IT GETS"!
