This is a low impact keyboard that I can type all day on. The keys have a short and easy action, and produce little noise. I find it a much better keyboard than the Microsoft 500 and 2000 keyboards, which have stiffer action and produce more noise.

I wasn't sure what to expect with the price tag, but went on the review of the other person who's given it five stars.
I've used it for a day now, and like it an awful lot. It's compact, and has convenient keys (including a few spare customisable ones), that make life a little easier.
The only down side I can find so far is the F-keys. They're not clustered in groups of 4 like previous keyboards I've used, and as someone who touch types and uses Alt-4 a lot to close down applications, I risk hitting the wrong key. It's only a minor quibble and won't effect my rating, as I'm sure I'll soon adjust.
On another slightly trivial note, I like the black coloue! My old cream/white coloured keyboard soon discoloured after years of use.

I gave the keyboard 4 stars, as it is a good quality solid keyboard which works as advertised, but nevertheless I personally don't like it. I now really wish I had bought something else.

Why? The keys have a very low profile, and as a touch typist you can't just put your fingers on the keyboard and immediately know where you are. The Ctrl / Shift / Esc keys are especially bad in this respect. I find myself frequently hitting the zoom keys in error (next to the Ctrl & Shift), and also the email key in stead of the Esc key. The function keys in particular are a triumph of bad design, being even smaller and flatter than the main keyboard keys. They aren't grouped in fours either which makes it worse. Just try hitting Alt-F4 to close an application and you will see what I mean. Very pretty, but the ergonomics are poor.

I'm sorry I can't be more positive about it. I gave it 4 stars, and for 90% of people it should be fine. For the other 10% of people who are touch typists, look elsewhere. If possible, try it out before buying.

Lovely keyboard...But
This is my second Microsoft keyboard 3000. So it goes to show I like it, having previously preferred those offered by Logitech. Read more

Microsoft Digital Media keyboard 3000
The keyboard looks smart and has a nice almost silent keypress operation. As a 2 fingered typist I find it easy to hit the right keys as speed is not too important for me. Read more

Not for touch typing or large fingers.
Well - smooth and attractive but, oh dear - I make four times as many errors on this as on the Logitech "normal" keyboards (not low profile). Read more

Brilliant: Love the short-cut idea
Very easy to use keyboard. It has five functional short cut keys which allows you to get to files you use most or like faster and conveniently.

Good but low profile function keys and as ESC is no longer the key at the top left of my keyboard I find myself hitting the Mail softkey instead. Read more

Outstanding keyboard
Worth more than twice the price of my last MS keyboard - so more bang for your buck. Hopefully will last longer too as feels more robust. Read more
