I must say at first that I bought my surface pro at John Lewis because it is cheaper there and they give a longer warranty. That said, this is a completely lovely machine. It is clearly the future of personal computing. It runs all my older programs faultlessly. It is clearly completely integrated with Windows 8 and operates brilliantly. Don't be deceived by the reviews from some pundits, I think they must have been reviewing a different machine to the one I bought! If you want a machine that will replace your laptop, desktop and tablet, this is it. Absolutely brilliant. The handwriting recognition is super, if it gets any better it could be the end of the keyboard. The pen is good too. Talking of the keyboard, I have the type cover which works just great and the on-screen keyboard is good too. The display is faultless and the i5 processor means that everything runs fast. Any drawbacks? None worth mentioning. The battery life is anywhere between 5 & 10 hours depending on your use and screen brightness, but it recharges very quickly indeed (about an hour or so) so its not really an issue. It does get a little warm if its being used for heavy work, but nothing like the reviews suggested and less than the average laptop..so another non issue. One piece of advice. Make sure you do a windows update when you first set it up. That will ensure that the fix that Microsoft distributed will be applied and you won't have any WiFi issues. Don't be put off this machine by the anti-Microsoft lobby, it really is a dream.
