Product Description

Amazon.co.uk

Whether you're creating a monthly budget or planning a complex investment portfolio, Microsoft's Money 2002 Financial Suite CD-ROM offers a compelling solution for everyone. With chequebooks going the way of the fax machine, money-management programs are becoming an increasingly popular addition to personal software collections.

While the setup wizard makes getting started extremely easy, take note that many features require users to have a Microsoft Passport account. Without this account number, users are unable to access some of the cooler Web features available in Money 2002. Disabling this feature is complicated, and ignoring it is virtually impossible as you are constantly being asked to sign in to Passport.

That said, many of the new features that make Money a worthwhile upgrade revolve around better Web integration and online services. The new MoneySide bar follows you around as you surf the Web, providing you with access to your financial data as you shop, invest or pay bills. You can also synchronise your Money data with MSN Money, which allows for up-to-date investing, banking and financial planning information. Other improvements show up in the areas of report and chart creation, as well as the ability to send these reports via e-mail. Finally, a new Bill Setup and Edit feature offers a central location for tracking your bills and making electronic payments.

One of the great things about Money 2002 Financial Suite is that you can use it as much or as little as you like. For example, if you just want to see how much a holiday will affect your monthly budget, the program offers a one-time expense feature to use during that month. If, on the other hand, you'd rather create a six-month plan to purchase a new SUV, Money 2002 will help you set up a budget to account for this expense over time.

Overall, Money 2002 Financial Suite is a strong and dependable tool for managing your money, which can only lead to financial gain. --Gisele Toueg

2.0 out of 5 stars MS Money 2002 is OK, 2 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Money 2002 Financial Suite (CD-ROM)
Having used Money 95 for a number of years I decided to upgrade to the latest version when I bought a new PC running Windows XP. I only really use Money to keep track of my income and expenditure and balance my accounts so Money 95 was fine for my needs any way.

Fortunately, this latest version converted my old data without any problems, and does everything I used to do, and in much the same way or slightly better. The biggest difference is web-enablement, and Microsoft seem intent on forcing you to get an MSN Passport for some unfathomable reason. Unless you are an ardent MS fan, I suggest that you skip these steps in the setup process and keep ignoring the prompts that ask you to set up your Passport. Eventually, you won't be asked any more and you can use the product in peace.

Personally, I haven't found any use for the web-enablement, but if you're with one of the bigger high street banks then you may be able to download your statements automatically. The user interface is somewhat cluttered at first glance, but after a month I've found out how to turn off the unwanted rubbish. The most annoying feature is that the software still crashes occassionally, and even once tried to automatically launch itself within Internet Explorer causing that to crash.

In summary, it does what I need, and is satisfactory in that respect, but don't believe the five star hype from 'A Software User from London' who is probably a Microsoft employee any way.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not too bad...., 15 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Money 2002 Financial Suite (CD-ROM)
Its not too bad to be honest, I only wanted something to keep track of where my money was going (esp my many direct debits) and in that capacity it works well. There's plenty of things you can do, but to be honest - i'm unlikely to use most of them. The passport system is pointless to say the least, and the reasoning from microsoft about it is nonsense in itself. Thankfully, if you do ignore the sign-in request 3 times it goes away, but you should be able to disable by choice - not persistance.

The easy way to find out if this is any good to you is to just download the trial version from the microsoft website, it lets you use it for 2 months, so you should get an idea whether you'll want it or not. But at the end of the day, it's just something to manage your finance's with, nothing more, nothing less. So 3 stars then!

4.0 out of 5 stars Initial problems but excellent afterwards, 24 April 2002
This review is from: Money 2002 Financial Suite (CD-ROM)
My first attempt at installation, on my Windows XP computer ended in failure. Luckly my System Mechanic software fixed the problem and it loaded perfectly after this. I chose Money 2002 as it is compatable with my online bank account. This means I can down load all my bank transactions within seconds. If only other online companies, such as Egg, provided this service. The software gives me a clear idea of my financial position and what a good Amazon customer I am. Microsoft should provide products that install perfectly on a Microsoft operating system.
