Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Whether you're creating a monthly budget or planning a complex investment portfolio, Microsoft's Money 2002 is a strong and dependable tool for managing your money and helping you reach your financial goals. Easy to set up, with features such as Web integration and online services providing you with access to your financial data as you shop, invest or pay bills, you'll soon have your household budget and accounts in order.

Many of the new features that make Money a worthwhile financial companion revolve around better Web integration and online services. The new MoneySide bar follows you around as you surf the Web, providing you with access to your financial data. You can also synchronise your Money data with MSN Money, which allows for up-to-date investing, banking and financial planning information. Creating charts and tracking reports have been greatly improved, as well as the ability to send these reports via e-mail. Finally, a new Bill Setup and Edit feature provides users with a central storage area for all bills and billing histories to be kept and managed.

One of the great things about Money 2002 is the scalability on offer to the user. For example, if you just want to see how much a holiday will affect your monthly budget, the program offers a one-time expense feature to use during that month. If, on the other hand, you'd rather create a six-month plan to purchase a new car, Money 2002 will help you set up a budget to account for this expense over time.

Overall, Money 2002is a strong and dependable tool for managing your money and will help you keep your financial affairs in tight order. --Chris Ryan

Manufacturer's Description

Microsoft Money 2002 is an easy-to-use personal finance management software application that helps you manage your personal finances, including balancing your chequebook, budgeting, reducing debt, planning for the future, and managing your investments and taxes. Money Setup Assistant walks you through initial setup and gets you up and running within minutes. Money Help, the Money user guide, and how-to videos make it easy to get the most out of Microsoft Money.

The new Background Banking feature automatically connects to your bank and updates your account registers, even when you're not working in Money, so your financial information is always up-to-date. Simplified setup for online banking gets you started in just a few easy steps. The login wizard helps you get your passwords, and Online Services Manager simplifies the way you manage your online banking.

Managing your bills is easy in Money 2002. The Bill Setup and Editing screen provides a single location for bill management. Plus it is easy to make electronic or automatic payments and transfers. When you're shopping, banking, or investing on the Web, the MoneySide feature launches automatically to provide you with secure and instant access to your financial information. The program can help you reduce your debt by identifying its major sources and allowing you to experiment with different payment scenarios to see how they affect your debt-reduction schedule.

This package has transformed my finances - I can now track every penny and I'm better off as a result. The software is simplicity itself to set up, as wizards guide you through the whole process. Regular bills are even entered automatically for you! Most banks allow you to download your statement directly into Money, and automatically compare the bank's records with your own. The only problem I've had is that it takes a bit of willpower to enter every transaction you make, but it's worthwhile. Some of the extra planners, wizards and charts seem excessive, but for the price, who cares?

I'm quite keen on Money Standard 2002 (and 2000) before that. It's ideal for anyone who wants to track their monthly expenditure and possibly follow their savings. Getting into the habit of tracking every expense is a bit of a chore (especially cash expenses) but it's worth it in the long run. The features available to download stock market information and create a budget are particularly useful.

Scruples I have include the fact that currently only ONE UK bank supports all of the online banking features available in Money (even though the box implies otherwise) and I don't really think that the Standard version is of much use to those who want to track VAT and produce annual accounts for tax purposes.

All in all, pretty good, but probably not for the small business user.

Having used MS Money 2000, upgrading to 2002 was pretty easy.

The package is great, i can keep track of all my incomes and outgoings, you just have to remember to enter all you transactions.

The only annoying thing i find with the software is the limited functionality associated with certain banks i.e LLoyds TSB, but this is not down to the software, its down to the funcationality of the banks website, one of my biggest pet hates is when downloading your statement, the transactions do not have a unique reference so Money does not know what has already been reconciled and ends up duplicating transactions.

I think once the banks get their online systems standardised the software will be invaluable
