Product Description

Amazon.co.uk Review

Office Excel 2003 is a superb tool for working with figures. Once your data is in Excel, it is easy to perform calculations, analyse results and create charts and reports. An Excel formula can use any of hundreds of functions, covering statistics, finance, mathematics, engineering and database access. Fire up the chart wizard, and you can present data in one of hundreds of chart types, or create your own customised chart. Another important feature is what-if analysis. You can create scenarios using different assumptions, and switch between them to discover how they impact other figures, or use the Solver tool to discover what values you need to input to achieve a desired result. Pivot charts and pivot tables let you view the same data in many different ways, for example viewing sales by region, by salesperson, by quarter, or by product category. Office Excel 2003 can also be used as a development platform. It includes Visual Basic for Applications (VBA) and almost every part of Excel can be manipulated programmatically, either from VBA or from external applications.

Office Excel 2003 includes a new object called a List. Somewhat like a spreadsheet within a spreadsheet, a List has its own headings and data which you can manage, update and share independent of other data in the worksheet. Another new feature is Information Rights Management, which lets you restrict access to specified individuals, allowing either full control or read-only viewing. It must be used with care, since it requires a Rights Management Server and recipients need either Excel or an Excel viewer, but could be useful for sensitive data. Office Excel 2003 also has much improved XML support, enabling data to be structured according to a custom schema, or parsed and modified by any external application that can work with XML.

Spreadsheets are phenomenally useful, and Office Excel 2003 is a mature product that has the lion's share of the market. It is at the heart of Microsoft's Office suite, and benefits from the familiar Office appearance as well as shared tools like spell checking and drawing. --Tim Anderson

There is absolutely no doubt about it -- Excel 2003 is the best spreadsheet program ever produced by any software company. It is much better than Excel 2007 or 2010 because it doesn't use that awful ribbon interface. It has the traditional pull-down muens which are much better and simpler. With the menu system you know where everything is.

Excel 2003 looks lovely too It is easy to use and very intuitive -- and no, I don't work for Bill Gates and Co. I have used Excel for a number of years and I am completely satisfied with it. It has all the features that I like, such as the super fast and easy auto sum by just selecting a range of cells and clicking the Auto-Sum icon on the menu bar. Super!

I can make up spreadsheets very easily that deal with all kinds of complex calculations.

Without realising it Microsoft produced the best spreadsheet in the world! Then Along came Gnumeric Spreadsheet 1.10.4, and it was FREE! So why use Excel with you can do everything in Gnumeric for free? Why throw away your hard-earned dole money?

We are living in times of economic recession, which will get much worse before it gets better. Forget those crazy British politicians with their optimistic waffle about the economy improving. It might even get to the stage where we will be reduced down to eating bread and drinking water, with the London Metropolitan Police up to there eyes in crime cases. Burglaries and house-breaking, theft, mobile-phone stealing will soon be topping the list of petty crime. So why throw away your drinking money buying something you can get for free? Hasn't Bill Gates and Co already robbed you enough writing buggy operating system software since Windows 3.1 came out in 1992? Was there ever a week that went by when your computer didn't hang, freeze or crash? Do yourself a favour and download the free Gnumeric spreadsheet and keep a smile on the barman's face in your local pub.

Wonderful program, allows a lot of options that are not available with other similarly advertised spreadsheets. Very user friendly.

Excellent product 23 Mar 2007

I have microsoft office (it has excel on it). However, I thought it was necessary to review this great product individually also. The spreadsheets are great because they can let anyone manage inventory and do their personal accounting. In addition, when you buy this program you can use the microsoft templates (which microsoft gives to you on their website only when you buy their product) for invoices, letterhead, billing statements, etc. The format of these templates are very professional.

Peace to all,

Patrick Leonardi

Misunderstood what this was. I was after Power Point and thought this had it too but it did not. Not the fault of the shipper, but I have no use for Excel alone. I already opened it so I couldn't send it back.
