3.0 out of 5 stars It falls between two stools 15 Nov 2010
By John Boy TOP 500 REVIEWER VINE VOICE
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I had high expectations of this book after reading the excellent Plain & Simple Windows 7, but it didn't deliver. As a home user for example I would expect advice on how to move Outlook .pst files to another partition, but no mention. It provides useful descriptions on the components of the Office Suite and how to use them, but this is not the all embracing book for home users it could have been. Nor does have the technical content for System Administrators.

The practice files for this book are now hosted by O'Reilly (the software publishers)and not Microsoft. You'll need to Google for that link as Amazon reviews must not include external links.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wee Anne 4 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback
I have just updated to Microsoft Office Pro 2010 and in the middle of CLAiT Plus Modules, found difficulty finding my way round individual programmes but not any longer, everything I need to know and it does what it says on the tin, STEP BY STEP with down loadable practice files. A great buy, worth every penny and once again excellent service from Amazon.

1.0 out of 5 stars Why such a mess 8 Jan 2011
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
I can't review the book for a couple of reasons, these are
At the rear of the book it says "It's easy to access your online edition of the Microsoft Press book, hosted on Safari Books Online
Scratch of the metalic box below to reveal book access code. It give the website to go to and then to enter the 24 character access code including the hypens.
This I did and it was continually rejected as it did not recognise the number. I tried this on a number of occassions with the same result
Then to get the practice files it gives the information as to where you can get them from. It only showed an advertising area, I couln't under any circumstances get the practise files
I have bought many books with tutorials and practice files, going on line and downloading has been so easy and trouble free until I came in contact with this book.
I won't return the book even though it is unsuitable for use with out the files and the other offer
However
If I ever purchase another book through amazon.co.uk that involves this incompetent site it will be returned pronto as unsuitable even though it may not be.
Websites like the one hosted by oreilly I can live without, they to be conservative leave a lot to be desired, roughly translated I think they are rubbish and would quite happy go online and tell the world what I think of them
I did however manage to obtain the practise files, surprise, from a forum all complaining about the same thing
I have no complaint with amazon, never have, they are great firm to purchase from, just dont want oreilly anywhere near me or my computer
