It is over twelve years since Canadian cook Penny Gray discovered the perfect tool for zesting citrus fruit - among her husband's wood working tools
Microplane made it's epic journey from the workshop to the kitchen
The small, chemically etched blades are as effective with garlic, chocolate, cheese, nutmeg and apple as with the zest of lemon that fell from the plane Penny used back in 1994

This is a great product and should get 5 stars however the product description seems to be for the next size grater up.
This grater (on the packaging) says ideal use hard cheese, ginger and nuts which was disappointing on arrival as I was after something with a suitable size grate for grating soft cheese (which seems to be the Super Course) .

This is such a good grater and easy to use - the best ever - worth every penny. I think this one is better than the ones with plastic handles.

There's no question that this is a nice grater. The stainless steel handle give is a sturdy feel, and the cutting blades are extremely sharp making it much easier and safer to use than some similar looking John Lewis graters I had previously.

The only thing is that even though this grater describes itself as a coarse grater, it's much finer than I was expecting. I will be getting the other two graters in this range (super coarse and fine) - hopefully the super coarse will satisfy my wish for fatter bits of grated carrot, but I can't conceive of how fine the fine might be if it's finer than this one!

I echo all the other positive comments about the effectiveness, design and washability of this grater. Grates brilliantly with very little effort on the user's part. The only gripe I have - and this is mainly my own fault, for not checking properly before I bought - is that the holes are actually quite large, despite the 'micro' tag, which is what led me to believe it would be suitable for fine grating, such as for parmesan, ginger, lemon zest, etc. Of course, it can be used to grate all of those things but instead of hair's-breadth shavings you get shavings of around 1mm thick.

Upgraded to the Microplane Professional range having used the plastic models for years until the frames started to crack.

These stainless steel models are comfortable to use, easy to clean in the dishwasher and lighter than expected.

If you're hesitating over the "add to basket" button, just do it - no regrets here.

Think there is widespread approval for these graters. Makes light work of parmesan which was exactly what I bought it for. Only takes a second to wash up, and doubt you'll find a better grater for your money.

I've used it for few months already. It's just great, safe and very easy to clean.
I've also got the Microplane professional slider that is very handy as well.
