Bought this for the wife last year. Very good and versatile grater as you would expect from Microplane. Hasn't been used much and was put through the dishwasher only 4-5 times in the year. It does state it is dishwasher-proof. The housing is now all cracked up and the slideout blade has broken plastic. The housing has obviously been made with a sub-standard plastic. Checking on the US Amazon web-site I see 2-3 more complaints this year about the same thing. One complainant had never used a dishwasher, so I think it is just bad plastic which is aging prematurely.

This grater works brilliantly but it is very badly let down poor a poor quality plastic shell which breaks up making the grater useless.
If it has a stainless steel frame it would be perfect ....

Fantastic grating ability but let down by really poor quality plastic

I have had this grater for 2 years now - it is the second Microplane box grater I have purchased - I love the cutting action of the blades - the first one fell to pieces after one year of use - I assumed that it had something to do with cleaning it in the dishwasher so when I bought this one it was lovingly hand washed everytime but again the plastic has degraded and the product is barely usable. I am so disappointed, the product should be so much better.

Plastic breaks easily
Very disappointed. Good grater (but nothing special), and easy to wash-up (with removeable blade) but very expensive and fell apart after about 6 months and is now unuseable.
