Bought this for my son's 8th birthday. He absolutely loves it. He can just about manage to put the track together himself (with supervision and a little help here and there). I think it is just about challenging enough for his age, plenty of twists and turns to make it exciting and the cars don't fly off the track too easily, so he doesn't get frustrated with it. The plastic mat is a useful extra, because it has the layout printed on it which is a useful guide and makes putting the track together really easy, it also helps give it a real dirt track rally feel. The cars themselves seem quite durable for a set of this type.
In summary, my 8 year old is very happy with it, his 13 year old brother has also enjoyed playing with it and their Dad is also enjoying the full rally experience with it after they have gone to bed!

Overall we think this set has been great value. It's possibly the longest - bendiest - colourful & fun (crashtastic) track of the lot in this scale!
We bought this for our 4 & 5 year old boys and to date have found it to be a superb set.
The track:
Sturdy, fairly easy to put together and take apart, just be aware that the connections need a bit of wiggle to get power through each section. The base mat in this set really helps as our young boys can copy it to get the track together correctly.
The cars:
Have mini magnets underneath to help the car stay on the track. Are a little more fragile, but of a good quality. We had to make it clear that the cars weren't the same as their matchbox cars!
Previous experience with Scalextrics tells us that the pick ups under the car can get clogged with dust and fray, the set comes with spares and because you set the track up on its base mat you have fewer problems with dust and bits of carpet.
The boys took a little bit of practice to control the cars but got the hang of it fairly quickly. Having the magnets on the cars makes it very easy to go full pelt & stay on the track on all but the sharpest corner ;) (Part of the fun)
A good long track with enough corners narrow sections and straights to be a challenge & fun rolled into one!

This is a big enough micro set to give enjoyment to a wide variety of players of most ages. Horny Hobbies offer it at a very very good price and if they maintain their pricing policy they are the vendor of choice. The magnetic grip makes the cars stay on well enough for the little ones while the track is sufficiently challenging to interest and entertain more experienced players.

Micro Scalextric Pro Rally Set
This is a really good scalextric set. It seems to have the longest track in its price range, and being a micro set you get more twists and turns within the space. Great fun.
