Review

If you associate macrame with the 70s and all that conjures up then think again, for here is macrame reinvented for the new millennium. Micro macrame uses thinner cords and vibrant fashion colors, so you can forget about hippy hemp and chunky styles. You can also forget about some of the far more complex macrame knots used in other new books on this subject; this truly is a book for beginners and a grand place to start. Anybody who has recently been keen on Scoubidou will know most of it already, and allied with a few choice beads and other components can make some fun, fashionable pieces. There are necklaces, bracelets, earrings, rings and a watch strap to choose from, and as with the other titles in this series each of the twenty projects also has another idea on the same page, making it up to forty. Anybody who has enjoyed Suzen's other books (also reviewed on this site) will recognize both Chinese and Celtic influences as well as nods to Scoubidou and other trends. The diagrams are clear and easy to follow, and you can plenty of practice using mainly one stitch to make each piece, as well as getting a chance to experiment with different cords. This is definitely staying on my keeper shelf as the simplest - and cheapest - micro macrame book around.-Myshelf.com Macrame has come back into favour with crafters and Suzen Millodot has used her knowledge of the technique to create micro macrame -stylish jewellery using macrame knots. This book has twenty designs featuring colourful cords and beads and each comes with an alternative colourway. There are clear step-by-step instructions accompanied by photography to keep the reader right at every stage. You can choose from necklaces, pendants, earrings, rings, bracelets, a watch strap and lovely knotted cords - each the perfect way to learn this technique.-Classic Stitches Twenty to Make - Micro Macrame Jewellery, a great little micromacrame project book, was written by Suzen Millodot, author of the well-known Chinese Knots for Beaded Jewellery, Celtic Knots, and Ornamental Knots books. Twenty to Make is a good starter book if you have been wanting to try micro-macrame and want to start with some easy projects. Suzen, as in her other books, gives clear explanations and diagrams for the knots. The projects in this book are all user-friendly enough to be made in an afternoon or less. Richelle in our office took one of the books home in the evening and brought in a finished neckace the next morning. For each project, the knots used in the project are diagrammed on the same page so that you don't have to keep flipping back and forth. The size of the book, 8.5-inches by 6-inches, makes it a perfect size to pop into a bag and take along. Most of the knots can be tied without a micromacrame board. Stick the book in your purse along with a little cord and you'll always have something to work on when you find yourself stuck in a doctors office or anywhere else.-The Satin Cord Store As part of the Twenty to Make craft series, this accessible little book provides more tuition and inspiration than many a weightier publication. I have always found that macrame works well scaled down and the author states that this is a craft where knowing a little lets you create a lot. If you've ever used macrame before to make a plant pot holder, then you're already equipped to experiment with necklaces, bracelets and earrings. Simple and understandable diagrams complement the designs and I like the dual colour ways provided for each piece of work. There are some unusual touches: making knots with the already braided cord produces a lovely decorative effect; novelty knitting wool or ribbon can be braided as well as cord; rings can be made simply with one bead; stylish tassel earrings - many possibilities. This book introduces a new slant on an old technique and comes highly recommended. Once confident working with long lengths of thread and the three basic knots involved it's possible to let your imagination take over. Micro macrame can resemble the style of the more sophisticated and complex kumihimo.-Bead Society of Great Britain

useful 1 Sep 2009
Format:Paperback
I have been making jewellery for several years now and tried Chinese knotting which I didn't get on with at all. This book however really is easier to get along with. You need very few tools - a cork mat, pins, scissors and thread but you may already own most of these. There aren't too many projects but enough to teach basic techniques. Even though I mostly make my chains from bead work or bought in silver, this makes a nice change and it looks far more natural with my felted beads. I only gave it 4 stars because for me there wasn't anything exciting or ground breaking. Worth a punt I reckon provided you can tie knots!

Very addictive book 16 Sep 2010
By Dee
Format:Paperback
I bought this along with another Micro macrame Book. Of the two, this is my fave, yes it is small, doesn't have step by step pictures but the stunning designs more than make up for it. I want to create every single design in the book - it's that good!

In response to the previous reviewer, you don't necessarily have to use the thread or cord she recommends, you can use what you have. The beauty of Marcame is that you can be flexible, once you have mastered a technique, the type of cord or thread you use doesn't matter. By the way you can get the threads and cords she recommended, do an online search. I don't want to break Amazon rules so I can't recommend the online shops I got mine from.

This is a great book for anyone who wants to their Macraming to another level. I love Macrame because it is so relaxing and can be addictive.

Happy Macraming!
