From Amazon.co.uk

Mickey Blue Eyes was crafted as a vehicle for the stammering British charm of Hugh Grant (star of Four Weddings and a Funeral and Nine Months), so whether or not you like the movie will depend heavily on your affection for Grant. He plays an art auctioneer who falls in love with schoolteacher Jeanne Tripplehorn (Basic Instinct, Very Bad Things), who just happens to be the daughter of mobster James Caan (The Godfather, Misery). To protect Grant, Tripplehorn tries to fend off his proposal of marriage, but some miscommunications lead to Grant being embraced by the "family." After the mob decides to launder money through Grant's auction house, an accidental killing results in Grant pretending to be Mickey Blue Eyes out of Kansas City (the sight and sound of Grant trying to say "fuggedaboudit" was undoubtedly what sold the movie in the first place). The plot isn't as well executed as it could be but the leads are all well cast and there are some excellent supporting performances, particularly Burt Young (Rocky) as a myopic mob boss and Scott Thompson (from the comedy troupe The Kids in the Hall) as a sprightly FBI agent. --Bret Fetzer, Amazon.com --This text refers to the VHS edition of this video

Product Description

Hugh Grant stars as Michael Felgate, an Englishman working at an upmarket auction house in New York. He falls in love with Gina Vitale (Jeanne Tripplehorn), a schoolteacher from Queens, and proposes to her. However, Gina refuses to get married as she fears that Michael will be corrupted by her gangster father Frank (James Caan). Michael is determined to change Gina's mind, sets out to meet Frank and is soon charmed by the mobster. It is only a matter of time before the hapless Brit is passing himself off as deadly assassin 'Mickey Blue Eyes'.

Format:DVD
When the world of a sophisticated English-born art auctioneer in a Tony Manhattan auction house collides with the world of the New York mob, one expects a universe of comic opportunities, and the movie pays off in spades. James Caan is becoming one of those rare actors who is as adept at comedy as at heavier roles. The script is intelligently funny, and the movie is loaded with riotously incongruous situations. The scene where Caan attempts to teach the debonair Hugh Grant how to say "fuggedaboutit" in a hood's accent is alone worth the price of the movie. An overlooked delight.

4.0 out of 5 stars EAT COOKIE!! 7 Sep 2002
Format:VHS Tape
A big surprise and great fun. The whole thing is light as a souffle, but silly and enjoyable. It really did make me laugh! The fortune cookie mix up ("Eat f**ing cookie!"). The terrible paintings which Grant has to hawk through his posh auction house to placate the mafia boss ("lot 13 - Die Piggy Piggy, Die Die").

And Uncle Vito - the trainer guy from Rocky, no less - putting the willies up Hugh Grant from behind inch thick Specs. All concerned seem to be loving every second of it.

Cretinous film but well worth wasting a Saturday afternoon on.
