The subject of bullying is always a difficult topic to address when trying to reach children, yet in her debut book Michelle in: Crabbit comes to Stay, new children's author Julie Hegarty succeeds in combining a fun, colourful story with an important message for young readers.

Julie's book is aimed at children between the ages of three and seven, an age group previously neglected by anti-bullying campaigns. Set in the rockpool world of Michelle the scallop, the book transports the reader into a magical yet safe place where they can deal with the subject of bullying and the emotions connected to it. It's a beautiful story, with fantastic illustrations and acts rather like a modern day Aesop's Fable. The book is also supported by the children's charity, Beatbullying and a £1 from every sale will be donated to the charity.

It's great to finally see a book that tackles the serious issue of bullying between younger children in such an imaginative way and prompts open and honest discussion between parent and child or teacher and pupils.

A truly excellent read!
