The green Michelin guides are a classic reference, but I'm not an unconditional fan. This guide is nearly 300-pages long and covers everything you might need to make your visit a success. I bought this guide not so much for the regions or famous cities, but for the occasional visit to a small place like Parma, Como or Trento. I lived in Italy for some years, and I speak Italian, and there are far better Italian guides out there when visiting Florence or Rome. So this guide is useful, but not more than that.

As usual, Green Guide provides a great snap shot of a country with its star rating system which helps you know right away which towns or monuments worth a visit. This also makes your trip planning much easier. I've read lots of guidebooks and Michelin Green Guide is the only onw who does this.
However, because of its effort to remain compact, the guide doesn't give sufficient details of each place and there're not enough photos. Also, there're only limited suggestions on restaurants and hotels.

Michelin Green Guide to Italy 13 Jan 2009
By 5laurel5 - Published on Amazon.com

I bought this to read before we go to Italy again. (I've already traveled there about five times). My previous copy was about twenty years old! The Michelin Green Guides are my favorite because they are succinct enough to read as you are traveling but they don't ramble on, they just give you the facts and the info that you need. And the maps are excellent!

Michelin Green Guide for Italy 19 Jun 2008

The Michelin Green Guide is still the best. It will turn you into your own expert guide. The star system lets you select the best spots to fit into your time frame. It will fit into your pocket, but it is not a light weight guide. Durable and easy to use, it is a classic.

ITMI REVIEWS MICHELIN GREEN GUIDES 4 Mar 2009
By Nicole Kreigenhofer - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I am an instructor at the International Tour Management Institute ([...]) as well as a tour director. I spend 4 months a year as a tour director in Italy and am never without my Green Guide and I always recommend that our tour directors and tour guides in training research their destinations using it. Michelin guides will give you information on every little village and town whereas most other guide book just give you the highlights and most important sites.
