Format:Audio CD
If you already have a basic knowledge of Spanish and you want to enlarge your vocabulary and get some further practice, this is ideal. It is fast paced, and the CDs are packed full of useful content - no musical interludes, no "authentic" backgrounds or similar rubbish that other publishers put in. There are not even any pauses for your replies: you MUST keep your finger on the pause button if you ever want to get a word in edgeways (and if you don't you won't learn anything).
The booklet is useful too. It is mainly a vocabulary list, and small enough to fit in a pocket or bag for quick revision at odd moments during the day. Again, there is no superfluous gloss, no colour photographs of flamenco dancers etc..
Ignore the publisher's comment that "Michel Thomas takes the responsibility for the student's learning" - you will need to concentrate, listen carefully and think before replying. This is a course for people with motivation.
I had learned my basic Spanish from other courses, and not being familiar with Michel Thomas I found his approach refreshing. I can imagine that if you have already done the 8-hour course you might find the Builder course a bit repetitive. On the other hand, I don't know of any other language course at an intermediate level and fast pace to recommend as an alternative.
A bit over-priced though.

This is the perfect follow up to the introductory course. Without the students present, the pace is faster than the 8-hour course.This means you do have to be ready with the pause button, as there are not the predictable pauses. However, there is a lot of new language, and I think it is taking me longer to digest it than the 8-hour course. I wholly disagree with a previous reviewer who says it goes over the same old ground. There is some revision, but always something else added to it, to build up your language. In short, it does what it says on the tin!

I was put off after reading a couple of other reviews and then after taking the plunge felt that it did seem to be just a recording of Michel reading through a list of words. But I must say that I was wrong! This is equally as good as the first 8 hour course but runs at a much quicker pace and you need to be ready with the pause button. A lot of the ground covered is from the other course but this is good for consolidating what you have already learned. I paid £16 for this course and learnt more in the time spent with this than £80 for a 15 week, 2hour per week collecge course!

Michael Thomas Spanish Language Builder

Omit this one!
I enjoyed and learnt a lot from the Michel Thomas 8-hour course that preceded this one, and from the Advanced course that followed it, and I'd recommend them both with enthusiasm. Read more

Not very useful
Basically all these CDs are is a list of words read out by Michel with no indication of how to use them practically. If this isn't learning by rote I don't know what is! Read more
