Its like being in the ring with a benavolent tiger, this guy knows his stuff. At first the pace seems slow but he introduces a word, then makes a phrase, then a sentence, then makes it negative and so on. Its not static like lots of other by rote courses.

How can people learn this way? 25 Jun 2008
By NotAnotherTourist - Published on Amazon.com
My husband raved about learning French through Michel Thomas, so I decided to pit his Italian lessons against the Pimsleur method. The differences were shocking to me!

For the life of me I can't understand why anyone would pay so much money for a non-native speaker teaching two fumbling students!

I don't mean to sound rude, but I could barely understand what Thomas is saying in English half the time and I am an ESL teacher overseas, so I deal with poor accents on a daily basis! Not only that, but his breathing and noises from his mouth are such a turn off I had to stop after the first lesson. There is not enough time to pause when given the pausing cue "beep" and I hated having to listen to the two students butcher Italian and then listen to him echo them in a heavy Eastern European accent.

I would highly suggest borrowing this series from the library or a friend before purchasing it so you can know what you are getting into! Obviously people learn in various ways, so if this way is for you, my hat is off to you! But for this kind of money, I'd rather spend it on Pimsleur.

I would definitely say that the Pimsleur method is much easier to understand and a large part of the lesson is focused on pronunciation. However, the pace is a little slow for people who have some command of at least one romance language.
