Product Description

Product Description
When Michael Schumacher retired from Formula One, battling to win his eighth World Championship, fans questioned how he, and indeed former team-mates and rivals, would react after the end of such a stupendous, record-breaking career. In this paperback edition of his highly successful hardback biography, Christopher Hilton updates the story of this controversial genius who, with a powerful mix of sublime skills and raw drama, in turns thrilled and enraged the Grand Prix world.

About the Author
Christopher Hilton, a highly respected author, has written over 30 books for Haynes, including five on Michael Schumacher. This book is a companion to his Michael Schumacher: The complete race-by-race record of his Grand Prix career, also to be published in 2007. He lives in Sawbridgeworth, Hertfordshire.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enigmatic man revealed, 17 Dec 2006
By Jason Manners (Preston, Lancs, uk) - See all my reviews
I didn't realise just how much character this guy has; he normally seems like a bit of a machine. This book gives a bit of background on the man behind the legend and its well worth a look if you want to know more about him and the way he has matured into the person he now is.

5.0 out of 5 stars "You have 17 laps to make up 20 seconds!"., 22 Dec 2006
By mr Average (England) - See all my reviews
RB: "You have 17 laps to make up 20 seconds!"

MS:"OK".

...Those were the words used over the radio at the Hungarian GP in 1998 by Ross Brawn and Micheal Schumacher. If i calmly said 'ok' to something it would be to get another beer out of the fridge, or agree to do a small easy chore for someone. In Micheal Schumacher's case he, after saying, "OK" : drove his Farrari for the next 17 laps beyond the limits what the engineer's could only imagine!, and beyond the dreams of his fellow competitors!.To win the race...

This amazing story about the above race, which as a Micheal Schumacher fan i thoroughly enjoyed watching and now reading about in this captivating biography by Christopher Hilton, is just one of many examples of Micheal Schumacher's abilities to put a formula 1 car on the limit!.The book also explains a little bit about the man outside formula 1.Of course Micheal Schumacher was a nice normal guy out of the car, but a ruthless, relentless, teutonic machine in the car.Anyway that's enough gushing about Micheal Schumacher from me.This review is about the book, the writer, and how well it has been writen.

Christopher Hilton has writen the book in a well documented, factual and engrossing style. It goes from the early years of carting, to the glory years of F1.It details every season, and analyzes pacific races(good and bad).I say good and bad, because Mr Hilton does not gush on about how brilliant Micheal Schumacher is all the way through the book.He is non bias and fair.Even as a staunch Micheal Schumacher fan i myself would agree : there is a flawed and dark side to Micheal Schumacher. But Schumacher is drama!; and that is why you should buy this book.

There are interviews and quotes from Micheal Schumacher, and lot's of other people involved in the sport. Ie, drivers, ex-drivers, and team members on all levels. There is not much about Micheal Schumacher's private life, but maybe we will have to wait for the greatest motor racing genius of all time to write his autobiography.(sorry i'm gushing again).Just buy and read the book...Highly recommended...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but only for F1 addicts, 20 April 2007
By P. Janeiro (Lisbon, Portugal) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was hoping for more - a bit of the man and his thoughts. Why the obsession, the absolute need for winning and so on. The book is not about that. It is a collection of old and more recent testimonies, race by race, from 1994 to 2006. It becomes somewhat boring after a while - 249 races described.

For those of love F1 like I do, you will remember plenty of those races, more than you care to admit.

Strangely, I can almost swear that the mighty man - Schumi himself - was not interviewed for the book. And that is strange, hence the book lacks a lot of true insights from M Schumacher.

Nevertheless, good reading for true F1 addicts. I enjoyed it.
