4.0 out of 5 stars Good Book!, 25 Mar 2000
By A Customer
This book has a lot to offer the newbie into the world of photgraphy.

It contains information on how to take good landscape, portrait, night, sky, close up, pattern, abstracted photos and more.

The section on exposure, explaining the relationship between time and aperture, was very good and i have a very clear picture(no pun intended) on how it all works.

This book will make you a better photographer.

do you know the feeling when you read book and they use abbrviations that you know or understand and you sit there thinking what the hells that all about?
well i do, but this book gives you all the information you need it tells you the full names and meanings in a very good glossary in the back.

an excellent hand book ideal for someone with a hobby or just starting out!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the complete beginner. but a bit dated now, 17 Dec 2002
I am no beginner to photography so this book turned out to be a bit basic for my needs. It is really aimed at a person who has no prior experience of photography and is wishing to find out what it is all about. In some respect this book is spot on as it provides straightforward advice on the basic techniques needed to take half decent photos. Where this book does fall over, even for the beginner, is that despite being fully revised it has a very dated look to it and some of the photo's used to illustrate techniques etc. emphasise this fact. This dated aspect is also evident in the equipment sections as there is no reference to digital cameras or computer aided manipulation of electronic images. While most beginners to photography would not initially invest in digital equipment it is important that they should be made aware of it and the potential benefits it can bring to the photographer.
