No matter how much of a Jackson guru you may be, there's always something enlightening here!

From the moment this book was announced, I was excited at merely the idea of a detailed discography list of Michael's music. The book lived up to its expectations and more as it contains some very valuable and interesting facts and trivia about so much of Michael's (and also the Jackson 5/Jacksons) work. Some of my friends looked upon it as merely a reference book, but I for one got very engaged on reading up the trivia, interview quotes, and insights behind making the music and what working with Michael is like. Reference-only or not, it's worth buying because no matter how much of a Jackson guru you may be, you'll certainly find something enlightening in this book!

For the Record is clearly a labour of love and a very much needed one. It focuses squarely on Michael Jackson's beyond impressive body of work and is the perfect companion for his discography to have on one's shelf. This expanded and revised edition adds the albums, the films and the books to the most comprehensive record of Jackson material ever published. It's a must have, for fans and music lovers in general. Heck, the Jackson Estate executors should get a copy too, or better yet hire the authors as consultants ;)

This is a must for any real michael jackson fan as it has everything you could want to know on the king of pop.It documents his many songs and some facts about each one,as well as the unreleased songs. Also features a complete chronologicial listing of his albums (solo and group) videos and books.You can look up anything song or album he has released and find out its chart placing and sales records. I have been a fan since the thriller album and taught i knew everything about him but having read this i have found out some many intresting facts.You just wont want to put down this book once you get reading it. Trust me mj fans this is it!! A fantastic book.

I urge anyone who is interested in Michael's music to buy this book. It is one of the most detailed books Ive come across! It lists every single, every album including collaborations he did with other artists. Wonderful.Buy it!!

With so much focus on everything except what made Michael Jackson a legend in the first place, it's a brave task for any writer/researcher to head off in search of every piece of music that Michael was ever connected with but to say that Cadman & Halstead have succeeded here would be like saying Michael Jackson was just a mere successful pop star. This may not be an official release (due to many reasons, not least difference in ownership rights, this would never happen) but this is an absolute A to Z of all things Michael Jackson & something which any genuine fan should have as a reference.
Even though it is a "Reference" book, listing all of Michael's work alphabetically, as well as smaller sections on video's, tours, books, etc, I read it from cover to cover & it simply staggers me to see how much these guys have got down. I've been a huge fan of Michael's for almost 25 years & it was music that came first with me which means that I was aware of even the tiniest link where MJJ was concerned but I constantly found myself learning new things reading through this book.
Other than the book not being an official release I do have one or two minor negative criticisms, one being the writing style & another being that you often find yourself skipping stuff due to it's repetitive nature, but I think it would be impossible to do any better. Ok, so the photo's aren't in colour but this would have pushed the cost up & meant less fans could get this great piece of work.
Overall this is a brilliant book for any true fan of MJJ's music & a purchase I'm delighted to have made, MJJ would have been proud guys !

As an avid fan of Michael's music and work, I've owned the first edition of this book for some time. I'm excited to order the second edition now because so much of Michael's important work with film, videos, etc. is not covered in the old edition. You will be astounded with the volume of his work and there are so many treasures waiting for you to discover. When I first learned about and listened to "Be Not Always", composed by Michael around the age of 20 or so after visiting impoverished countries overseas, I wept. "Streetwalker", which didn't make the cut for the "Bad" album, is one of my favorite songs by Michael. "Cheater", "Monkey Business"...I learned about them all from this reference. I use this reference constantly, either to educate myself or pass information along to fellow fans. When you know Michael's work, you know Michael Jackson. His whole life is in it for all to see, enjoy and understand. If you're a fan, you will not regret this purchase. If you know Michael Jackson fans, it's a gift they'd treasure the rest of their lives.
