This is a collection of unseen photographs of Michael Jackson from the key period of his career, from the end of the Jackson 5 era, and after release of "Off the Wall" through to the filming of the "Beat It" video for "Thriller". These are candid photos before Jackson was surrounded by handlers and before anyone working with him had to sign nondisclosure agreements or surrender their copyright on photos.
About the Author
Author Todd Gray photographed Micheal Jackson from 1974 to 1983. He is currentlly a professor of art and photography at Cal State University in Long Beach, California.

This is a truly beautiful book & is as stated full of rare pictures which are quite stunning, my only criticism of the book is that there are not enough photos and that some of the best photographs are double page spreads which in my opnion is stupid since inevitably the centre fold/spine always falls in the place where it obliterates the subject of the photo ruining a great picture; that said, true MJ fans will love this book for the unusal photos within it during a period of time where he at least looked happy in almost every shot (whether or not he was is of course up for speculation). Avid fans should buy this book; most fans should possibly save up and wait for the Opus but I am thinking that as this book is more than a tenth of the price of even the discounted early pre-ordered Opus it may well be a more accessible way to get some previously unpublished stunning photos of the beautiful man. If you are expecting any sort of a good read about MJ dont buy this book; it IS just a picture book.

I really do love this book has lots of rare photos a brilliant book to keep forever! The guy who wrote this book was his photographer apparently and he tells some good funny stories about Michael. Very good and just a lovely keep sake no negative comments just photos and shared memories. Lovely.

It is a pretty good photo book. Some of the pics are truly beautiful, but some are otiose (in my opinion) and could have been replaced with other more intriguing ones. The photos are taken between 1974 - 1981 and show Michael on stage, at his home in Encino, backstage, or just sitting on a couch/chair... But the one I fell in love with is a picture of him feeding a couple of roe deers. The author shares some sweet recollections and thoughts on Michael. This is a very nice collection of photos (and memories as well). I'm sure it would make every M.J. fan happy (though I give it "only" 4 stars).
