4.0 out of 5 stars What we should look for when composing an image 31 May 2013
By Jaz
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
This book discusses chapter by chapter, how and what a photographer should be looking at in a scene, what to include and what is best left out! What is likely to make the best image, Michael Freeman talks about balance and symmetry, lighting, motion and mood. He guides the reader through ratios, leading and diagonal lines, the rule of thirds and the use of colour, line, shape and form to get the best image possible, he lists many of the pitfalls when taking images and encourages creative thinking, whilst developing a creative eye.
At the end of each chapter there is a challenge to the reader, this includes a check list and gives the reader a chance to take images in a variety of ways to compare the resulting images for themselves.
A great book explaining the art of composition from the basics to the more subtle and advanced approach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book for budding photographers. 14 Dec 2013
Format:Paperback|Verified Purchase
Composition is one of these grey areas where one man's idea of composition differs wildly from another's. Nevertheless this book is a very good guide to helping photographers to move their photos up a level. I particularly like the way it is presented, so that each technique builds on the previous one, with plenty of examples and exercises to help you get great results.
Doesn't just stick to the use of the various "rules"of composition, but shows you how to integrate them and if applicable, break them.
