This book discusses chapter by chapter, how and what a photographer should be looking at in a scene, what to include and what is best left out! What is likely to make the best image, Michael Freeman talks about balance and symmetry, lighting, motion and mood. He guides the reader through ratios, leading and diagonal lines, the rule of thirds and the use of colour, line, shape and form to get the best image possible, he lists many of the pitfalls when taking images and encourages creative thinking, whilst developing a creative eye.
At the end of each chapter there is a challenge to the reader, this includes a check list and gives the reader a chance to take images in a variety of ways to compare the resulting images for themselves.
A great book explaining the art of composition from the basics to the more subtle and advanced approach.

Composition is one of these grey areas where one man's idea of composition differs wildly from another's. Nevertheless this book is a very good guide to helping photographers to move their photos up a level. I particularly like the way it is presented, so that each technique builds on the previous one, with plenty of examples and exercises to help you get great results.
Doesn't just stick to the use of the various "rules"of composition, but shows you how to integrate them and if applicable, break them.

Good composition is the vital ingredient of an interesting image. Freeman analyses the process of setting up a good composition in camera. Also shows how images can be enhanced by thoughtful application of Photoshop. Includes a series of project exercises to test and develop skills. Highly recommended for anyone with a serious interest in the arts and crafts of photography.

Its a fairly good book if your starting out in photography, There were lots of good examples but its mostly all basic stuff, I don't know if that was intentional for everyone to understand but I was expecting a lot more insight into composition than there was. Also its not a very big book.
