Product Description

Review

"'An extraordinary pageant... Imaginatively and brilliantly written.' - Irish Times 'Michael Collins and the Troubles should be required reading for politicians in Dublin, Belfast, and London... An excellent encapsulation of a crowded time in Irish History... Reading it will throw fresh light on the whys and wherefores, the ifs and buts of our comparatively recent past.' - Mary O'Rourke, deputy leader of Fianna Fail, Irish Sunday Independent"

Product Description

When Asquith introduced his bill for Home Rule for Ireland in 1912, he sparked a decade of turbulance and violence for Ireland and her people. Michael Collins played a crucial role in rekindling Ireland's aspirations for freedom. A leading figure in the nation's bitter and bloody resistance to British Rule, he played a key part in reshaping Ireland's history as we know it today. Ulick O'Connor includes valuable new information about the secret war against England and provides a fresh and highly dramatic account of Ireland's fight for freedom. Using crucial material from the archives of General Richard Mulcahy, Collins's Chief of Staff, as well as personal interviews with Mulcahy, Eamon de Valera, and many other leading figures, MICHAEL COLLINS AND THE TROUBLES is a vivid and often horrifying account of a turning point in Irish history, the consequences of which are still felt today.

Michael Collins and Troubles 18 Dec 2007
By Patrick D. Malley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
Outstanding. Tim Pat Coogan has a firm grip on the subject. His writing style and passion induced me to read several of his books. I consider Tim Pat a rare writer, one who writes with both passion and fairness. A must read for any student of the 20th century.
