Originally priced at £200 on the high street you get a lot for your money with this set. The pots look great and are well made. The straining lid is what attracted me to them and I can see it be a really good addition. My set has only just arrived, so I haven't has a chance to use them yet - this is just an initial 'first impressions' review, which I'll come and update in a week or two. But so far, I'm very, very pleased with them: they look great, feel like they're well made, good quality items, and you get an awful lot of them for your money.
It says they're dishwasher safe - I hope they are - I shall certainly be testing that in the coming weeks and it's good to see there's a 10 year guarantee included with them too. Watch this space for an update.
Also, I eventually bought this set (obviously), but I also saw another similar set on here (that have straining lids)and I thought you might want to check them out too. Here they are:
Ready Steady Cook - Bistro - 5 Piece Cookware Set - Stainless SteelIf you found this review helpful at all please give it the thumbs up, if not please comment on why so I can do a better job for you next time. Thanks a lot, and happy cooking :-)
UPDATE:
Just cooked some pasta with them and a few points of note: The handles felt a little warm, and that was only after 4 or 5 minutes on the hob; could they get red hot when used on the hob for longer? It seems so and other reviews suggest so.
The straining lid was brilliant! So far these are still five out of five for me.
UPDATE:
Just cooked a stir fry with the wok/pan. It's an odd size but a nice size. It's kind of in-between a large wok, but bigger than a small one - it's somewhere in between. This has both advantages and disadvantages. I found I struggled to fit all my food in (but then again I eat loads as I train quite a bit). I did get 1 orange pepper, 1 onion, 1 red onion, a pack of baby sweet corn and 4 large mushrooms, 2 packets of straight to wok noodles ( that's 2 servings of noodles) and 2 chicken breast in - The pan was pretty full and I ended up flicking a lot of it on the hob and floor as I stirred it. However, the small size meant the wok was really nice to handle.
I prepped the wok as the instructions suggested - by rubbing a little olive oil on its surface - and the non stick surface worked like a dream. Not a single thing stuck and when it was time to clean, I could literally wipe it clean with kitchen roll. I've never had a non stick surface that worked that well before - but maybe that's because I've been using cheap pans from my student days and half the non- stick surface had been removed. Anyway, the non-stick surface gets 10/10.
I also found the wok heated extremely quickly - I turned my back for 2 mins and there was smoke everywhere! Also the pan cooled very quickly once removed. I could touch the base almost straight away which I found pretty cool. Also, although small - ish - the wok was nice and deep.
More cooking exploits later.
UPDATE:
I'm happy to report, although I'm still washing, or rather wiping the frying pans clean by hand (the non stick surfaces make it so easy!), I did run one of the smaller pots though the dishwasher as a test. I'm happy to report it came out fine, with no visible damage done to it. So far, it seems, these are dishwasher safe.
