Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

This stainless steel curry pan has a traditional shape designed to allow food to be lightly fried, while confining stirred food to the body of the pressure cooker. This is ensures that the food is constantly exposed to the heat before adding liquid. The product has a visual pressure indicator that will rise to indicate that the cooker is at pressure and has two settings for versatility when cooking.

Safety features include a directional pressure regulator that ensures the steam releases away from you and a special cam that locks the lid and body of the pan.
Principles Of Pressure Cooking

Under normal conditions water boils at a temperature of 100° C (212° F). This temperature is dictated by atmospheric pressure and cannot increase no matter how long boiling continues. The cook control on your Prestige Cooker increases the pressure inside the cooker which in turn raises the temperature at which the liquid boils. The result is faster cooking time because of the higher temperature obtained and at the same time the steam is forced through the food, cooking and tenderizing it.
Meyer Pressure Cooker Currey Dish

The Advantages of Pressure Cooking:

Speed: because of the high temperatures used in Pressure Cooking, foods are cooked very fast. Generally foods cooked in a pressure cooker will take 1/3 of the normal cooking time.
Nutritional Value: loss of nutrients is reduced to a minimum from the short cooking times.
Convenience: by using a pressure cooker to cook a complete meal or several foods at once, fewer saucepans are needed saving space in the cupboard and time washing up.
Economy: fuel is saved, as cooking times are so quick and only one heating area is used.
Versatility: delicious recipes can be cooked: from more traditional stocks, soups, casseroles, pasta, rice, cereals, pulses, fish, and vegetables.

1.0 out of 5 stars Avoid this product !, 7 Jan 2008
By J. Mullender (Birmingham, UK) - See all my reviews

Very disappointing indeed. Within weeks of buying it, parts began to malfuction and fall off. The screw attaching the handle to the pan loosens every time it is washed or used, and now, despite tightening, water leaks through this uncloseable gap, preventing full pressure from being achieved. The grey plastic ring (in which the weight sits)fell off in the washing up recently, and the gasket is extremely temperamental (although recently replaced). It is now completely useless as a pressure cooker - won't come up to pressure at all. I recommend Tefal.

3.0 out of 5 stars disappointed , 17 Jul 2008

Prestige Smart Plus Stainless Steel Pressure Cooker, Curry Pan
I am disappointed by the performance of this product, though I has not failed as such. I have used it for about 6 months now. The cooking times are longer as it produces only 12 PSI and it constantly looses steam, which adds to the amount of fluid needed. Before I cottoned on, I burnt food several times. I bought this pressure cooker to replace my old (German) one which dropped form the drying rack and the handle broke off :( I agree with the other review. If I had to buy another one I would go for Tefal.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad design, 26 Nov 2008
By Mrs. I. L. M. Challis (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have owned this pressure cooker for nearly 2 years. The pressure regulator has broken about 4 times. Each time we have mended it and once even replaced the unit. It is now broken again and I have given up with it.
I was never actually happy with it as a pressure cooker as it didn't
really achieve a good pressure and therefor took too long to cook food.
Please don't buy this product, it is a waste of money and a very bad design.
