Product Description

Product Description

Author Francesca was driven by a genuine desire to offer a child from a disadvantaged background a stable, loving home. She wanted to do some good in the world and it was her strong feelings of compassion and a desire to save a child from a life of poverty and suffering that motivated her and her partner Rick to move mountains to adopt a baby. After being turned down for being 'too white', they embark on a journey that rests their stamina, resolve and sense of humour. They discover a country that seems stuck in the 1970s, but one that, despite some grim political realities, is strongly compassionate. Packed with a series of nail-biting unexpected twists and turns, it's a story where we see the couple meet a set of characters straight from Hollywood, from manipulative women to shifty crooked characters and glamorous Catholic matriarchs.

Mexican Takeaway 18 April 2011
Format:Paperback
Loved this book. From the beginning I could not put it down, an exciting yet traumatic journey of one couples desire to do good and give a unwanted child a loving home. Throughout the couples love for each other shone through, a truly touching account of their incredible and unique journey to find their daughter.

A must read for anyone who wants to find out more about the emotions surrounding adoption: Francesca tells the story of her and her husband's ordeal as the first UK couple to ever adopt from Mexico. I was hooked to it right from the start: together with Francesca I laughed, I cried, I felt anger towards shady characters they met on their journey and frustration towards the monstrously bureaucratic system they have been fighting against in both in Mexico and the UK. A true story written with so much heart and soul.

I am not one who normally writes book reviews, but I couldn't resist after reading this. This is a must read, and not just for those considering international adoption! Francesca tells the story of her and her husband's amazing journey through Mexico, with their end goal to adopt a child. Their journey is astonishing and is as much about the ups and downs they encountered on what must have seemed like a wild goose chase through Mexico's orphanages, as it is about the uphill battle they faced against the 'system'...both in Mexico and the UK. I laughed and cried along with Francesca on this very moving journey. The story is as much about the journey as it is about the end result. I highly recommend this book!
