Fool's Gold 1 April 2010

Let's put things into perspective. Following on from the heights of the milestone critically acclaimed triumph of "Between Yesterday and Today" this album really takes a dip. Basically forgettable seventies middle of the road AOR. It failed to sell then and it certainly won't now. But all is not lost..........the album is saved by the insightful "Fool's Gold". So one star for one song, shame about the rest. It seems that Alan is at his best when working within the constraints of a "concept" such as on the soundtrack to the film "Oh, Lucky Man" and "Between Yesterday and Today" both equally brilliant.

By Og Oggilby TOP 1000 REVIEWER VINE™ VOICE
Format:Audio CD
Alan Price has never been trendy. If there's a bandwagon to be jumped on, he'll just let it pass on by. However, his career is positively littered with crafted, thoughtful Grown Up's Pop Music, and 'Metropolitan Man', from the mid-1970s, is one more fine example. The track 'Fool's Gold' is one of the most eloquent dissections of music biz machinations, and is worth buying this album for on its own. However, there's much to be enjoyed here. Thirty years on, and he's still doing it, and why not?
