It is the year 2034.

Beneath the ruins of post-apocalyptic Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro, the remnants of mankind are besieged by deadly threats from outside – and within.

Mutants stalk the catacombs beneath the desolate surface, and hunt amidst the poisoned skies above.

But rather than stand united, the station-cities of the Metro are locked in a struggle for the ultimate power, a doomsday device from the military vaults of D6. A civil war is stirring that could wipe humanity from the face of the earth forever.

As Artyom, burdened by guilt but driven by hope, you hold the key to our survival – the last light in our darkest hour…

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have!!!! 18 May 2013

Fun: 5.0 out of 5 stars
The game pretty much starts where 2033 left off. The dark ones have been scorched off the earth, from the missiles you launched against them.
As the game progresses you get that feeling of dread and guilt which is perfectly exemplified by the the atmosphere and amazing background score.
The storyline, as the game progresses is one of the best build ups you will get to experience. The graphics are also absolutely stunning.
The only complain i would have with the game is that the AI could have been much more refined, having said that the other aspects of the game more than make up for this minor issue.

Conclusion:
If you really like games with exemplary story lines, then this is definitely a must have.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Truly Excellent Game. 3 Jun 2013

I loved the first Metro and all the STALKER games. This game is a cross between both. The gunplay has been improved and the graphics are amazing. In fact the graphics are so good that they look real life. The physx is optimised well and plays very smooth. I turn SSAA off as it completely kills frame rates for very little, if any benefit and that's with a GTX 690. The story is a continuation from the first game and is great IMO. The music score and sound effects do an excellent job of putting you in the atmosphere of the Metro which very few games can achieve, I found it very daunting and scary at times. My only criticism is that I wish it was an open sandbox game like STALKER as the art design is so damn good that it lends itself for exploration - however it is still a great game. In fact you can only imagine what STALKER 2 could be like if they were to make it today. Metro Last Light is one of the best shooters I've ever played!

3.0 out of 5 stars Metro 2033 Part 2 17 Jun 2013

Metro Last Light continues after the events of Metro 2033 and although it's not imperative you play Metro 2033 to understand this, I do recommend you play Metro 2033.

You see, MLL does take what's good about M2033: Graphics - stunning, Sound - immersive, Atmosphere - intense, but it also loses it's unintentional desperate gameplay. MLL shooting mechanics have been improved, items are more readily available and the stealth sections are too easy. In M2033 you really had to conserve ammo, shooting was underpowered and (unintentionally i'm sure) bugs and save game checkpoints made you feel like you were really scavenging and conserving to survive, which is the whole ethos of the Metro game.

If this game would have came out instead of M2033 i'm sure we'd be lauding it as a master piece but gaming has moved on in the intervening 3 years and gamers are going off on-the-rail shooters. They (we) want open world, multiple routes, no 2 gaming experiences the same kind of gaming. You know what the annoying thing is, the 'world' you play in is so rich in detail and atmosphere, it would have been a joy just to be given the chance to wonder around. Alas, there is a strict corridor and you must stick to it - or die.

MLL feels like a rehashed M2033 (re-used sounds, weapons and same dodgy voice acting) and struggles to 'pull you in' to the story like M2033 did. It just doesn't feel like enough has been done to take the game up a level (hence my review title).

If Metro 2035 does come out I really hope they make it more sandbox, or I probably won't consider buying it. That said this game really does take you on a diverse journey through the world 4A games is trying to portray and they do it very well.

Firstly I would like to say that the first game 'Metro 2033' was flawed gem among the titles of 2010. The world we explore is actually originally from the 'Metro Series' primarily written by Dmitry Glukhovsky. This world is about as dark and adult as they come. Trust me Fallout seems positively brimming with life and sunny enthusiasm compared to the stories that Glukhovsky wrote.

Back to the game: We start Last light with the friendly silent protaganist Artyum from the last game. Freshly traumatised from his experience from the last game. We follow him trough his trials as he attempts to redeem himself. It can get pretty dark at some points and some of its developers dont seem to have been worried wit shocking subjects paticually as to what happens to children in the metro. Seriously folks; this is NOT a game for children.

Gameplay wise its pretty standard apart from Artyum assortment of cobbled together guns and accoutrements such as his torch which comes with a kinectic battery which has to be cranked to recharge. Bullets, like in the last game come in to kinds. Normal crappy, cobbled together bullets which will be your primary ammo for the game, and Military grade bullets. These also serve as the currency for the game which works surprisingly well as you find yourself low on ammo and a mutant bearing down on you. Do you try and kill it with your knife, possibly dooming yourself. Or do you kill it with the ammo that could also buy you a refill for your next jount outside the metro.

Soundwise; Its Brilliant. From the "drip, drip, drip" of those lonely tunnels, to the chatter of the populated hubs and the satisfying click of a clip of ammo slotting into place, Last Light's sound design is fantastic.
