Product Description

New York's Metro Area--acclaimed producers Morgan Geist And Darshan Jesrani--are no strangers to the dance floor. Since 1999, their series of EPs have constantly found favour with the world's more discerning DJs and now, alongside some new material, they are collated in one fantastically cool package. Geist is a well respected techno artist in his own right, more interested in texture than banging 909s, while Jesrani has roots in New York disco-soul. Together they've pooled their talents to cleverly embrace old school R&B and pared-down grooves with modern deep-house shapes.

Recalling the soulful experimentation of early club classics, the duo mix live and electronic instruments to stunning effect and yet enhance their creations with strict digital frameworks and solid loops. If you like the idea of clinical Linn drum machines rubbing shoulders with Philly strings, or deep, New Jersey house bedding down with stripped-back electro-funk, this could well be the record you've been looking for. --Paul Tierney

5.0 out of 5 stars Asbolutely Stunning Debut 4 Jan 2003
Format:Audio CD
Having bought this album on the strength of Metro Area's previosuly released single Miura, I have been blow away by the sheer technical excellence and unique depth of this musical work. There are very few albums on my shelf about which I can confidently state that every track is a gem - and this is one of them already. Darshan and Morgan's musical skills on display in this album excite me just as much as Daft Punk's 'Discovery' and Groove Armada's 'Northern Star'. I'd even go as far as to say this work is as good as any of Massive Attack's quintessential albums I have in my collection!
In terms of music, this CD is a must-have for any fan of non-commercial dance, whether up-tempo or down-tempo. It is funky yet sophisticated; rhythmic melodies combine with sumptuous basslines and loops to leave you either chilled out, tapping your feet or just marvelling at the sounds you hear! Dance Reaction, Miura, Square-Pattern Area and Atmosphrique are amazing, yet do not really stand out because the rest of the album supports them so well! Am I over-hyping this CD? Yes. Why? Because it really is that good...

5.0 out of 5 stars Instant classic. 15 July 2005
Format:Audio CD
Metro Area's debut album is easily one of the greates dance records ever. It calls you to the dancefloor immediately but it's still musically interesting enough for a home listening. Many dance/house records tend to be too limited and not so interesting though they might work great in the dancefloor. I have listen Metro Area's album for a couple years now and i still find it interesting. This is not just a typical houserecord. Its mix of disco, electrofunk, house and boogie is just amazing. Every song is a killer in its own way.

Metro area don't lean on to cliches that sometimes are too obvious in this genre. With rhodes, live string section, warm analog keyboards and modern loops they create their on timeless sound.
The thing that makes this record so great is the songs. There are so many musical ideas in every song and there are just very few elements there. But when something comes in it always sounds that this is excactly where it should come. You can dance with it or you can just sit and listen to the songs and their every different minimalist elements.

If you like modern dance music or just rhythm music generally then i can't recommend this record enough. This is already a classic. Can't wait 'til the next album.

5.0 out of 5 stars who says disco is dead? 16 Feb 2003
Format:Audio CD
Bought on a wim one cold afternoon mainly on the strength of a quick flick I was delighted to be shaking , nodding and cranking up the volume to these two electro dance ubermeisters. Blending the synth beats with live instruments, some deeper moments equally comfortable in the lounge or in a club the 60 plus minutes just flew by and you just new that there was something special happening. The funked up guitars, heavy beats and orchestral philly type stabs just make you smile and want to cut some rug. Don't delay, just pick it up and relish the idea of dance music not being dull and predictable.

5.0 out of 5 stars ow for summat a little different........ 24 Nov 2002
Format:Audio CD
Born from the brainchild of veteran producers Morgan Geist and Darshan Jesrani, ‘Metro Area’ came onto the music scene in 1999 when they released their self-titled 12”. Now taking a step further, they release a full album which again is self titled.

It just goes to show that classic cuts need not have been created in yesteryear. Echoing the track selections from the likes of Hed Kandi’s ‘Disco Kandi’ series, the music takes inspiration from the duo’s love of the old moods of R’n’B, disco and boogie, along with today’s sounds of pioneering house and techno.

This album has some brilliant pieces such as Dance Reaction, Muira, and Machine Vibes. Funky, chic and groovy, ‘Metro Area’ does not put a foot wrong, and provides quality track after quality track throughout the duration of the album.

For lovers of dance music and the old skool vibe, and even for those who are mildly curious, this has to be one of the highlights of the year, and definitely an essential purchase. It’s that good – plain and simple.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fun, Funky and Chilled Out 18 Nov 2002
By Jason D
Format:Audio CD
A great CD to listen to after work on Friday night before you go out, Metro Area's disc is laid back but fun house music. Forget cheesy vocal anthems - this offering is cool and sophisticated but fun enough to charge up any listener. Imagine meeting up with friends in a swish New York bar with live DJs that know just how to get the audience worked up while they sip their cocktails and you've got Metro Area.

Saw them at play live at Fabric, had not heard of them before. Just awesome - been playing the album none stop !! Favourites are Dance Reaction, Miura and Atmospherique but all are good. If you like music that twists and turns while leaving a huge groove in it's tracks then have this.

4.0 out of 5 stars dance reaction 28 Feb 2003
By butts
Format:Audio CD
This is basically a collection of 12"s but it works. It's like a newly discovered album of mid 80's, mid-tempo dancefloor funk bombs.
