Purchased this on a recommendation via facebook and after hearing a few samples on the artists website... was SOOOO pleased once i heard the first few tracks!! Clocks Back, Wanderer and skin of the wolf.. are a few of my favorites... However the entire album is a wonderful blend of playful lyrics and melodies!!

Go have a listen... you won't regret it!

Euphoria! This debut album by singer songwriter Metaphorest takes you on a journey of pure listening JOY. The tracks are unique and individual to to taste. Think - alternative folk... er no, pop/rock... mmm... jazzy/bluesy, all of that, but more. I love the whole album, but for a 'mix', listen to Skin Of The Wolf; The Tailor And The Seamstress, Clocks Back; Conquistador... You know what - just buy the album: you won't regret it.
Point of interest, 'Metaphorest' is a cousin of Kate Bush - no kidding!

I've first heard some of Metaphorest's songs on an open collaborative artistic website (from where she also contributed with a few musicians on the making of this album). And what a delight this is! I can't stop listening to this soothing collection of songs and smart lyrics that will surely stay with you too: you might even find yourself sing along with her unique voice on repeat.
Songs like Clocks Back, Wanderer and Hindsight should be true classics already, yet somehow I pick a new favourite each time of listening: Empire, Take Her to the Forest, Shelter. Metaphorest's style is pleasantly haunting, and luckily there are plenty of melodies to choose from while everyone can find a track to their individual taste.
An exciting debut album from a talented singer-songwriter that you won't regret buying and recommending to your friends!

Having acquired this sumptuous CD only days ago I feel compelled to extol its many virtues in a mini review if I may?

"Upon opening the gatefold sleeve, that seemingly never stops unfolding, I am instantly struck by the wonderful illustrations, and the quaintness therein. The thing I love about CD's is the physicality of them and the extras that simply don't come with an MP3 download. This is a warm CD and its MP3 counterpart would simply be the music, a cold shadow of the real thing. Anyway, onto the music. The influences here are manifold, from the obvious (Kate Bush) to the not so (Kirsten Hersch, Lisa Germano, Lisa Gerrard) and every female singer songwriter in between. The songs are moody (Clocks Back) and quirky (Flawed Romance - sounding so very much like the beautiful Harriet Wheeler of the sadly mourned Sundays) and even sometimes just plain beautiful (Apologist). On `Oh Captain' Sarah implores some unknown sailor to "steer this boat". Looking for love? Put the whole male population on alert! The lyrics are astute, incisive, funny, poignant, and sometimes even sad. This is not a total surprise, as Ms Daly is also a poet of some renown, but from the evidence here, also a gifted and inspired musician too. The indie and shoegaze of songs like Clocks Back, Siren Calling, and Apologist are complemented easily by the pop sensibilities of little gems like Lake Like Glass (a heart-rendingly short 2 minutes of acoustic bliss). I play it again and I hear other influences that are not so obvious first listen, such as Foxes, Paper Crows and even Florence Welch. Sarah's voice has a crystalline quality, and so like Kate Bush, a frailty also. But it is a confident sounding instrument, that she uses well inside the tapestry of the whole.

This album is in my top 5 best purchases of 2011 together with Kate Bush and PJ Harvey and these two are more than just product placement in this case! It is surely a very original and interesting production- one can easily see that by just judging the cover! The layout and illustrations will steal your heart and drag it all the way into the deep and dark lyrical forest and surprise you with its soft, female spirit. It does not hurt at all.

Meta has gathered an amazing team of people for this project and it is really hard not to notice the perfect smoothness of their collaboration- every element, visual or musical, works in such a great harmony with others. This is a rare and precious phenomenon in today's music. You can feel how much warmth and beauty is in and behind this production.

The music itself is an amazing and endless journey, full of surprises and the deeper you get, well, forget going back. I am unable to pick my favourite song although I have been listening to this album since the release date. Every song is a story and even if the lyrics aren't long, they may make you dive into the mysterious world and discover your own story in this. Or will just be easier to remember and sing during the morning toilette ritual.

The thing that makes Metaphorest special as an artist is not only her lovely, soothing voice but also the topics she covers- from cupcakes to war, from ants to skeletons and so on. You just simply cannot predict what is next! And what is amazing is that she shares her wisdom in such a way you want to sing with her, even ignoring the fact that singing is not your thing.

I feel lucky that I was able to discover Metaphorest in time, just before her first world tour ;) I am looking forward to Metaphorest Vo.2 and wish her and her awesome team all the best!
