4.0 out of 5 stars A must buy for metallica fans 11 July 2005
Format:DVD
This is definatley a must buy for metallica fans, especially if you play an instrument like drums, bass or guitar and are intrested in making music in a band. It gives you a good idea of the way that metallica make their music, especially how they went about making the black album. The reason i gave it only 4 stars out of 5 was because it only talked about the making of Sandman, sad but true, hoiler than thou, the unforgiven, wherever i may roam, nothing else matters and a little of the god that failed.
Although I am a big fan of metallica I found out things on this dvd that I never knew before. Such as why Bob decided to work with metallica, what some of the songs mean to the members of metallica, Jason's original idea for my friend of misery and more. Also it is funny to hear the original demo recordings of some of the songs.
So overall i would say this is a must buy for those wanting to make music themselves in a band, especially those fans of metallica, thats not to say though that people not intrested in making music wouldnt bennifit from getting this dvd as you do get a good inside look at the members of metallica.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great but .... 3 July 2001
Format:DVD
Had this been any other band I would have given this three stars. The DVD itself is a must for any Metallica fan with some really interesting insights into the workings of the Black Album. In particular James, Lars and to a (surprise, surprise) lesser extent Jason and Kirk discuss how they came up with Enter Sandman, Sad but True, Nothing Else Matters etc. Also Bob Rock talks about his contribution. My only gripe is that the video for each song is not shown in its entirety. There should have been no problem doing this on a DVD and the videos would have rounded of each song chapter nicely. Fear not, its not all talk and if, like me, you love Metallica then get this.

By A Customer
Format:DVD
As all you devotee's will know "The Black Album" was Metallica's launch into MEGA stardom. This is a "making of" style DVD. It has great background information and offers a rare insight into the work required to make a 'classic' album.

The DVD includes extracts from various music tracks but it is not a music DVD. Fans should note that this is not the recent DVD-Audio re-release of "The Black Album".

Picture & Sound quality are both good; all in all a must have for any Metallica fan's collection.
