THE TALKING COMEDY ROBOT ON DVD AT LAST.,
By NEO "Daren" (orpington kent) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Metal Mickey - Series 1 - Complete [DVD] (DVD)
Metal Mickey was one of my favourite shows from childhood that is until the final series as the joke was wearing thin by that time. Anyway the robot was built by Mr Wilberforce played by Mike Stainton a mad inventor who wanted a mechanical home help. Micky's annoying catch phrase was 'Boogie Boogie' and it would move it's arms and do a dance at the same time. Micky would also get into all sorts of scrapes using magic mostly directed at Granny played by Irene Handl. The Robot made it's first Tv debut on the kids show 'Saturday Banana' then got it's own show. The series ran for four series from 1980 to 1983 with 39 episodes in total. The series was produced and conceived by Micky Dolenz of the Tv 'Monkeys' fame. It's great to see this reach Dvd after so many years and will bring back many memories. It wasn't the best comedy ever but it was very much of it's time with the 'White Hot' 1980's computer revolution.

Your metallic pal is back, get set to fall in love with the boogie machine!,

I feel the scars of my adulthood slipping away (Yes Keith Chegwin scars! You know what you did!) when I watched this, back to a more innocent age and you need to watch it with a sense of innocence as the acting is, well, meant for kids back in the '80s so give it a break.
Mickey on the other hand is just hilarious and charming, you just want to cuddle this big lump of metalic mayhem. I found myself roaring with laughter and Irene Handle is the icing on the cake, My Little Fruitbat! LOL I promise you this is a few quid well spent and yes you will watch it more than once, maybe when the family is out and no one else knows, its our little secret! LOL Don't panic if understanding Mickey's metallic voice is a little hard in the first episode, they sorted that out by episode two with a little clearer speaking into the gizmo that made his voice. The quality of these episodes is nothing short of stunning when you think Blakes 7 is roughly the same age and it has deteriorated badly, this could have been filmed yesterday apart from the wonferfully cheesy effects, etc, LOL. If you remember Mickey, get this, you wont be disappointed. If you don't want or havent got the cash, rent it and indulge your child side.

It is just how I remember it. The acting is absolutely terrible. Only metal mickey and Irene Handl still have their dignity. But the scripts are hilarious. Colin Bostock-Smith is a genius . If you liked R2D2 and Carry On films, then this is the comedy series for you.
