Product Description

Product Description

True to the tradition of the series, Metal Gear Solid 4 is a game full of imaginative secrets bound up in a complex narrative. The secrets include hidden areas, Easter Eggs, alternate cut-scenes, bonus items, concealed game modes and undisclosed button combinations. The secrets and narrative represent the game's true genius and its replay value and these are the raison d'etre of this guide. With the aid of complete top-down, satellite-style maps, the Walkthrough (written for the extreme difficulty level and therefore covers all settings) leads you through the entire game covering all optional tasks and secrets as these become available. At over 200 pages, the guide also includes dedicated chapters on Equipment, Secrets and Metal Gear Online.

5.0 out of 5 stars THE guide., 13 Jun 2008
By Mr. L. C. Button "ashend10" - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
The book opens with a foreword written by Hideo Kojima. He states that this guide was written in collaboration with Kojima Productions and to compliment the MGS4 experience. It is fair to say that if it is not in this guide it is not in the game.

The How To Play section details the controls and explains how to use equipment such as Solid Eye and Metal Gear Mk.II. The Walkthrough is full of in-game photographs and colour maps. The locations of all weapons and secret items are shown. Multiple strategies are given for each level as is the best way to deal with all enemies and bosses. The Inventory includes the huge array of weapons featured in the game and their attributes. Bonus costumes and face camo is included. The Extras section details all the Emblems and all special equipment such as the Mantis and Sorrow Dolls, The Solar Gun and Tanegashima. An iPod tunes list is also included. The location of all 30 ghosts is listed and The Boss Extreme difficulty is explained. The book concludes with a Synopsis and Biographies of all the characters in the Metal Gear series. Unlike a lot of strategy guides an index is included at the back of the book.

With the inclusion of Metal Gear Online it must be said that this guide is truly comprehensive. But it is the quality of the publication which really stands out. It is a joy to read and look at even without playing the game. For MGS4 fans this guide is essential.

5.0 out of 5 stars brilliant- opens me up to a whole new world of metal gear, 15 Jul 2008
By P. A. Ballard (UK) - See all my reviews

I never normally buy guides, and this is the first time I have. Strangely enough I bought it after I completed the game- as a friend had recommended it, and I have now gone back to the campaign and completed it again, and again, whilst discovering loads of cool stuff.

The guide is extremely detailed and gives you a step by step guide to completing the Big Boss extreme difficulty, which I have now subsequently completed. The guide also shows you numerous 'easter eggs' and gives a detailed guide to the story as I had no idea what was going on throughout the campaign. Thankfully I now understand the story thanks to the guide- unfortunately the first time I completed the story I fell asleep during the final cutscene, and it didnt help that I had never played any of the metal gear games before!

Highly recommended guide for good and bad players alike- enjoy :D

5.0 out of 5 stars The handy Guide for all ur MGS 4 Needs!, 26 Jun 2008
By M. Williams "Kyoto Wolf" (England) - See all my reviews

The art inside this official book is like any other MGS form of art, which is stunning. If you have not had the chance to play all of the MGS games. Then this book has a handy selection of pages talking about the most imporant people in the MGS world. Best to play the game without using the book to start with, then use it once you hvae had your first play-though. As its the type of game you can play and play. All in all, its backed full of usful information, and detialed full colour maps to help you out. 5 out of 5.

I don't usually buy guides but MGS4 is one of my favourite games so I didn't want to miss anything on the second play through. Read more
